jonPhillips
Can anyone tell me why the recorded 'take' sounds slightly different to what I'm hearing when I'm playing? The other night I got a beautiful tone out of my Telecaster after tweaking some of the Vintage Amp parameters in Amplitube 2 (using it as a Logic 8 plug-in, not in standalone mode). The guitar was running through an interface straight into the computer and from the computer straight out to a pair of Citronic Nearfield Studio Monitors. It sounded really crisp and clear, with great definition on both the highs and lows. However, when I recorded it and played it back (on the same evening, without changing any of the parameters – or anything else, for that matter), it sounded flat by comparison. It'd really lost the sparkle it had when I was actually playing it 'live' and sounded a bit lifeless. I swapped backwards and forwards a few times to make sure it wasn't my ears playing tricks on me and even repeated the process the next morning when my ears were fresh. If anything, this magnified the difference. I didn't add or remove any effects, plug-ins or anything else, but there is a noticeable difference in the recorded vs live sound. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be and how to fix it?

If you are monitoring with nearfields, you'd be hearing the brightness of the sound of the pick hitting the strings, and the acoustic sound of the unamplified instrument along with the processed sound you hear (slightly delayed) through the nearfields. Maybe try mixing a little clean guitar with the amplitube sound for some extra definition (or micing the tele and record the mic'd sound and blend a little of that in)
jonPhillips
That's a very good call - something I hadn't considered. Thanks for the advice, I'll go and do some investigating...
