StuBA
Is there a site or resource that discusses some tips on how to emulate some of the great guitar sounds of recorded history (e.g. Dave Gilmour, Pete Townsend, George Harrison, Boston, et al.)? I'm new to recording electric guitar through Logic and would love to hear some tips on tweaking the existing software, or suggestions on external plug-ins. I realize getting the exact sound is probably proprietary info, but would love to hear suggestions from the Forum.
Logic Pro
i wanted to sort of start something here where we could all share multi tracks (not original) but covers etc. I found this site, some guys there did some Floyd covers. http://homerecording.com/

I have version 2, which I think is awesome, but version 3 is out now and is probably more comprehensive still. - I haven't upgraded because I do far less guitar now than I used to. - C

I normally record guitar parts by playing them through a Line6 Pod and onto the machine. Is there any reason for me to get Guitar Rig? And isn't the Guitar Amp in Logic sufficient? davidpye
What IS wrong with using amps nowadays? Like real amps with valves in?
ChicoSatis
What IS wrong with using amps nowadays? Like real amps with valves in? I'll let my neighbors explain that one. But if you can use a real amp definitely do it. These emulations sound great but the originals are still the best IMO. Have a good one.

If I have to record in a studio.... Ok.... Bring on the Boogies and Marshalls and all those other walls of loud.
pantomimeHorse
.......Judging by the avatar you are a guitarist. Past tense, really ! That pic was taken in 1989. I hang on to the memories ................... ..... I normally record guitar parts by playing them through a Line6 Pod and onto the machine. Is there any reason for me to get Guitar Rig? And isn't the Guitar Amp in Logic sufficient? Guitar Rig just does stuff in a (for me) nice, intuitive way and the library of setups is awesome. But, if you're cool with something else, don't let an old rocker influence you into spending money ! ! ! ! - C
Viv Savage
Past tense, really !I have a double role being a guitarist and keyboardist... So I am the big space hoarder on stage *muahahaha* Guitar Rig just does stuff in a (for me) nice, intuitive way and the libraryof setups is awesome. But, if you're cool with something else, don't let an old rocker influence you into spending money ! ! ! ! Money is not the object as I rather pay a bigger amount for something good;size is. My girl has already threatened to nail one of my guitars to the wall if I buy a new one. And she's been giving the Les Paul a strange look lately...
