showstopper group tracks bug

Hey guys, I've been using logic for a couple years now and absolutely love 8... for the most part...

the issue is with quickswiping, and I've just wasted a 3 hours session with a client trying to get it to function properly.

Basically, I have two group tracks on an acoustic guitar (left and right mics). They are set to share edits/region select. There's five takes each. As soon as the song playhead passes from, say, the 5th take to the 3rd, one of the tracks will cease to play. Occasionally, both will cease. Unpacking to folder and undoing will let me hear both tracks until another swipe is made. Has anyone run into this insanity??

On a related note, one song's 'shared edit' grouped drum tracks (eight) will properly swipe simultaneously, while another song's won't... what the hell????

I've spent a long time assuring other engineers of Logic's performance and reliability as a completely professional audio tool.... this is calling all that into question... :x

Sorry, never happened to me. But I'll try doing what you are describing and see if I get the same problem, then I'll try to work it out. Hope I can help.

This is what I did:

I set up two mono tracks grouped together (edit/select) for a stereo recording. I did three takes and put the regions in a folder. I put the regions next to each other. Everything was playing as it was supposed to. Is there anything else I should try that I missed?

Wait, now I moved the takes around (put the 3rd first and so on..) and half way through the last region (1st take I think) both tracks went dead. But after moving them again it doesn't happen again.

Seems very random.

I have had very similar problems with the groups basically not always acting totally "grouped". It doesn't happen all of the time but enough to make the group function hard to count on..... not good.

Also, Sometimes tracks that are no longer assigned to groups will act like they are (especially mutes) still grouped.

In my experience, these situations seem to happen more often with documents that have had a pretty good bunch of work done on them as opposed to new documents with fewer changes, edits, tracks groupings, etc.........

I'm hoping these problems along with some of the other short comings of the group functions in logic will be addressed soon.

Make sure you're on 8.0.1 this was a bug in 8.0.0, and I believe it has been known to carry across within songs that were started in 8.0.0, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Maybe try saving a project copy of one of the songs which has the problem if you are up to date and see if that fixes it?

(regarding comping) Hmm, that's pretty much it. I have multiple swipes, and some will work, and some won't. Oddly enough, the track names don't necessarily match, even though they were always recorded simultaneously.

IE, the first region in each track might be "47-Acoustic 07" while the other one might be "e22s - Acoustic 08" - not "07" as one would expect.

Regarding the grouping, are there any workarounds? It's just crazy how 8 tracks can be grouped, and quickswiping one won't affect the other 7 as it should.
