torsig1967
I'm wondering... Which settings are maintained between sessions if I start every new session with "empty project". I really like to start with a blank project every time exept for: - Environment settings - Screen sets - Key commands - Preferences (global) Do I need to create an "almost empty" default project for this or are these settings maintained even if I start a session using the "empty project" template? 1pauper1
just get it set up the way you want it. then go up to the menu bar under "file" click on the "save as template" option. name it "my starter template" or whatever you like. from now on when you open logics main project chooser your template will be one of the choices. shivermetimbers
However, once you open your new empty template and start working in it, be sure you do a 'save as' with a new project name. Otherwise, your empty template won't be so empty.

shivermetimbers
Yer welcome 1Pauper1. I don't know how many times I screwed up my 'new empty template' before the light went on.

Otherwise, your empty template won't be so empty. Actually the idea of a template is that you open them with the template window, and then you can simply "Save" them (not "Save As"). It's impossible to screw your template unless you do a "Save As Template".

It's impossible to screw your template unless you do a "Save As Template". Oh, for me, nothing is impossible. In LP7 I used to try and make templates thinking I was on to something. I would make a clean template that I wanted to use for every new song. The problem was/is that if you record on it, or make any changes, it is no longer clean. Hitting save will save whatever is in that file. Thats why I used 'Save as' (with a new file name) to avoid writing on my 'clean' template. If you try to do a 'Save as Template' Logic will remind you that you are about to overwrite your new clean template. I just tried it (in LP7) I opened a new song and selected 'Use Song Template' and selected the 'clean user template I had previously created. My next option was to create a project folder and name it. Logic is then opened with the new clean template. I can now use this template over and over again as long as I do a 'SAVE AS' with some other project name. If I used 'Save,' The template would contain everything I added to it. The next time I open that template all the stuff I added is there and it is no longer my clean template. So my workflow is to keep a nice clean template as a scratch pad and do a 'Save as' with a new project name.
David Nahmani
I just tried it (in LP7) I opened a new song and selected 'Use Song Template' and selected the 'clean user template I had previously created. My next option was to create a project folder and name it. And at that point you should have saved your project. But even if you didn't, later when you choose File > Save or press Command-S, you should have seen a "Save As" dialog. Unless you point that dialog back to the original template folder, you're not overwriting your template, so you really have to WANT to overwrite it to do it. In fact people usually complain how convoluted it is to modify and resave a template! On a side note, I think we should all assume that when we say "Logic", we are talking about the current version of Logic.
