boydman
before i purchase the Waves PAZ Analyzer plug, i thought i'd check to see if there is something similar for cheap (or free!) any suggestions?
fader8
Similar? Logic Pro's Multimeter. Better? RND Inspector XL. Free? Depends which PAZ feature you're looking for. What tools do you need?

boydman
What tools do you need? "the PAZ analyzer generates a comprehensive realtime visual representation of your audio’s stereo positioning, frequency spread" that's what i'm looking for
fader8
"the PAZ analyzer generates a comprehensive realtime visual representation of your audio’s stereo positioning, frequency spread" that's what i'm looking for That's exactly what Logic's Multimeter plug-in does, and you already have that. I tried PAZ a few years ago and was very unimpressed actually. If you want something better than Logic's Multimeter, then Inspector XL is it. A little more than PAZ but worth it. Audiofile Engineering makes Spectre, which is nice, (150 US) but it's not a plug-in. You have to use the aunetsend plug to access it. Also not a plug-in, but the very best, is Spectrafoo Standard and Complete, (400 and 800 US respectively). Not for the faint-hearted though. boydman
thanks, i'll check out logic's multimeter. i've been using the analyzer function of the channel eq, which is pretty cool. but i'd like a stereo spread visualizer too. thanks for the suggestions. boydman
OK, so I checked out Logic's own multimeter and...I really don't like it! Just personal preference I guess. It makes sense, but I much prefer the graphical presentation of the analyzer on the Channel EQ, for example. The goniometer function is even worse. It's just a blob of waveforms in the middle that stretches based on stereo spread. Not so helpful. The waves analyzer, on the other hand, looks like it would make total sense to me. I love the graphical presentation. This was not meant to be a rant. It just struck me how different presentations of the same information can make sense to one person and not another. I guess that's why there are so many products out there! Maybe I'll check out Inspector XL too. Waves analyzer interface:
Holger Lagerfeldt
The frequency analyzer in PAZ is quite useful and fairly accurate. The stereo field analyzer though is pretty useless in my opinion. But then again all goniometers are pretty useless. Any particular reason you need this feature? For basic "when in doubt" situations, Logic's in just as useful. For more advanced stuff you can't use a meter anyway. So it makes little sense unless you're doing some semi-pro testing.
