on the ultrabeat window toward the top there is a import button above the osc1 region. there is also a possibility to import samples in the osc 2 region (square window toward the bottom with the graph of the sample).

do those 2 do the same thing ? more specifically what is the use of the import button on top compared to the one in the osc2 region ?

thanks !

The import button is to import ultrabeat sounds (or "voices")

The "Load Sample" option is to import a sample

An ultrabeat sound can be all sorts of combinations of sample playback, phase oscillation, ring modulation, noise generation, physical modeling, frequency modulation, side chain audio processing, through filters, disto, EQ... all of that modulated.

thanks, but at one point i clicked on a ESE synth preset sound in that import window above osc1, (it was a pad) and the whole thing got stuck (beach balloon forerver) i had to force quit logic !

Yeah, that happened because you cannot load one instrument's pre-set to another instrument.

The pre-set is telling whatever instrument what settings to have, and since the ESE and Ultrabeat have completely different parameters, you're just throwing Logic a super curve ball that it can't hit.

But...

You can send an audio file of your ESE sound into Ultrabeat as a sample, pending you following all rules for loading samples into UB.
