Music Theory - general reference and learning

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

I have a scattering of music theory knowledge from classes for various instruments and such, but I forget most of what I once knew. I'm looking for a book that will help fill in the gaps. Any thoughts? Something that assumes I'm starting from ground level would probably be best. I've also seen and used http://musictheory.net/, but I'd prefer a book.

In more recent times, I'm using Logic 8 to learn synths, so my current focus is more on composition than performance.

The straightforward amazon search pulls up, among the early results, Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory and several For Dummies style books. Not looking for a "Dummies" type thing.
