bpm counter increasing, when I wouldn't expect it to.

I put a song from itunes into Logic, that Holly Valance cover Kiss Kiss (yeah, I know, I just wanted to test something.)

I stick the bpm counter counter to check the bpm.

The bpm counter comes back with 97bpm, thats cool with me as I was tapping that before.

Though when it gets to a certain point, the bpm counter suddenly jumps to 129bpm, there is no noticeable increase at all in the speed at all.

It then goes back to 97bpm.

Why does it do this, I increased the metronome to 129bpm to check it out and it didn't go at all.

Am I missing something?

bpm counter's are pretty inaccurate at best - they calculate the tempo based on low frequency events - generally the kick drum

just listened to sample of the song on itunes - in addition to the kick drum (which didn't appear to have that much low-end) there's also a pretty low squelchy bass which the bpm counter is probably seeing as part of the beat...

I believe it analyzes rhythmical peak transients and not low frequency events?

Anyway, you can find the tempo by cutting out 4 bars of music, placing it on the beginning of a beat, and setting the locators for 4 bars.

Then select the function Options>Tempo>Adjust Tempo Using Region Length and Locators

That should give you an approximate tempo which you can round off.
