Simon
Hi all, I did a course on how to use Logic back in January to March but I have forgotten some things... I have just bought my first DAW and have the following kit. Quad 2.5 with 4.5GB ram 2nd 250GB RME Fireface 800 - latest firmware and drivers KRK RP 8s 20 inch cinema display Logic at 7.2.1 I have a novation Ks4 as my controller. I get an error message every bar and comes back everytime I click ok. The message is: "Error while trying syncronize audio and MIDI , sample ratre recognised, check conflict between Logic and external device" I cannot get any use of logic until I get this sorted. I can play the soft instruments but not do any recording. I believe I am missing a setting and some important setting up. Many thanks Simon
David Nahmani
Do you still get the error when the Novation is off?
gertvanhoof
Looks like a sample rate conflict. Have you activated DDS in the Fireface Settings control panel? If you have, check whether Logic and the Fireface are set to the same sample rate. In the same panel, make sure Clock Mode is set to AutoSync. Logic itself should be running on Internal Sync; you might check this by holding down the Synchronisation button in the Transport bar. If this doesn't work, David will come up with some more sophisticated advice altogether.
gertvanhoof
Unbelievable...! He already did!
Simon
Hi, thank you for the fast responce guys. David in answer to your question, yes it does. It happens as soon as I hit play and/or record and if I am using the blue audio apple loops I have spoken to Rme here in the UK and have checked the settings with them, and they said all is fine in the RMe as did the manufacturer of the Synth. Thanks again Simon
David Nahmani
Any other firewire device aside from the RME? Where is it plugged? In the front? Try plugging it in the back. Or the other way around. Your problem could be a bad firewire bus on the G5. If that's the case, you can buy a PCI firewire i/o card for $30. But before you try that, try the usual: move your preferences to the desktop and restart Logic ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro, repair permissions... And of course gertvanhoof's suggestions as well. Also try changing Logic's sample rate a couple of time to reset the drivers (although I've never had problems with the RME drivers, this has helped in other situations). Simon
Hi David, I have tried all the firwire ports and tried the buffer settings at different levels. None of this makes the slightest difference.. Any other ideas please.. Simon PS are there any changes I need to do when I first install Logic? David Nahmani
Does the problem go away when using the 'built-in' drivers? And have you tried using the RME on another mac (if you have one)? Like I said, if none of the above works, get a firewire card, your firewire bus might have a problem.
Simon
Hi David, I have fixed the problem! just after I posted last night....... The problem was me.. I had set the card to 48KHZ but not audio MIDI and I changed this and all is fine now...... Thanks for your help and thoughts on this matter. David Nahmani
The problem was me.. I had set the card to 48KHZ but not audio MIDI and I changed this and all is fine now...... Ouch.... this is not the proper way to adjust your sample rate. You have to do it from Logic: Audio > Sample Rate > ... and it will update both the RME drivers and the CoreAudio settings in Audio MIDI Setup. As a rule, never change those settings from the RME interface or from Audio MIDI Setup.
