i'm confused about consoles

Recommended Posts

so lets say you have an ssl console. where is the audio recalled from? do you hook it up to a computer or tape machine? how does it interface with them?

maybe this would have been a better 'tech room' question if some kind moderator might nudge it over.

you "recall" audio from what ever medium you recorded to, whether it be tape or a computer

most most inline mixers, you've got an input for a microphone or instrument for recording, and a second input from your multi-track source (your tape deck or computer's audio interface)

these days 9 times out of 10 it'll be a computer, so if you want a nice big SSL, you'd better have enough I/O for your computer (one input/output per channel on the desk, plus 2-8 extra inputs - stereo, to 5.1/7.1 surround - for the final mix)

Personally I wouldn't mind one of the 24 channel SSL Dualities - nice automation/control features along with some pure analogue goodness
