Dragging mp3's from itunes to Logic 7

Hi, I've been trying to get mp3's from my itunes into logic, i drag them onto my desktop & then onto an audio track in my arrange window, the dialogue says that it has converted, but when i play it, there is no sound.

It appears in my track and when i click on it it opens up in the audio editor, but the little loudspeaker icon doesn't play the file.

I've also notice that sometimes when I have a file that works, I chop it up, save the selection, and when I bring it back to a track, it's there, but it doesn't play.

What have I done wrong?

I also sometimes get the following dialogue

 

"the read/write permission of only access path to a file can allow writing .... result code = -49 "

Try converting the file to .aif in iTunes first, then importing.

How do I do that within itunes?

Do you work with projects? I always work in a project and have it set to 'Auto convert sample rate when importing audio files'. When I drag an mp3 onto the Arrange window it creates the AIFF file in my project's audio files folder.
