Noyan
Hey everyone, David I have just a little problem that makes me curious about is it specific or general? I' m using my Logic Pro. 7.2.1 with my PB G4 1,67GHz/2 GB RAM. I usually freeze all the channels before closing the project and generally using about 14-20 channels(both audio and MIDI) . When I re-open the project that I had freezed and closed, an error message is appearing like the 'Sysytem Overload or The HDD Is Too Slow'' . And I press the 'Continue' button on the message then there will be no message at all. A friend of mine using G5 DP 2.3GHz, told me that about the same problem once. Is there any member of the club of this problem victims? PS: Added a picture of the message. All channels are not freezed but the same message. triplets
From the picture it looks like you didn't freeze everything, like the ES2 and the Techno Kit. Freezing is like bouncing but the computer does it for each specific track. I also see you use a lot of plugins on a channel strip. Do you ever use busses for delays and reverbs? Also remember that if you're mixing and not recording anymore you can increase your I/O buffer size to take load off the CPU.
Noyan
Thanx triplets, I added a PS at the bottom of my message which writes about the freezes. I thing you didn't see... And of course I use all the performance tricks that you told. But the question is when the CPU usage is under %30-35 with all this channel strips/inserted delays-reverbs etc. everything seems allright, why there' s an error message appears when first playing the song? Thanks
triplets
Yeah, I saw the PS after I posted. Sometimes the computer, more if it's a laptop with a 5400 rpm hard drive, is not quick enough to look for the frozen files or any file for that matter. I had that message once in a while on a DP 2.5. Also check if your processor performance is set to Highest in the Energy Saver panel on the system preferences; and also never let the hard drive sleep. The computer can never be quick enough for our purposes.
triplets
And another thing: did you know that on the Ensemble plugin, if you use 8 voices, it is taxing the CPU eight times? It means that 8 voices enabled on the Ensemble is equal to having 8 pitch shifters going on that same track.
Noyan
Allright, I didn't know about the 'Ensemble' that would be a monster like u said, thank you triplets. All the other settings are set correctly which for high performance. And I also tought it might be the HDD. So I did some research about the 7200 rpm HITACHI Travel Star HDD's , before making any desicions on buying it I must be sure the problem becomes from the PB' s 5400 HDD. But still confused about; because a friend of mine' s(D.P 2.3 owner) and your experiences make me think about it; or investigate. Anyway, thanks.. I' m looking forward to hear if any Logic Pro user have the same problem.
j
14-20 frozen tracks (at 32bit floating point?) would be quite taxing id presume on a powerbooks 5400 drive, with the system on it and everything? + how much space is left on the powerbook drive? you need preferably 50% free, and at least one third, for healthy OS performance, so i keep hearing [i never go that low so ive never ran into this problem]
Noyan
Well, thanks ~ j ~ . I' ve %70 free on my HDD usually.
morepunkthanfunk
i always get that message, just click ok and get on with it. i usually get it when i've been inactive for a few minutes and my external harddrive goes to sleep or when i've got too many plug-ins running, which in that case i freeze the more cpu heavy tracks
tattootror
buy a big fan and put it behind your power book works for me summer heat is a killer
Noyan
Yeah, u're right. I' ve already put a cooler pad with 2 fans under and a huge fan cooler above my PB.
