David Nahmani
The Apogee Ensemble audio interface, with Logic Pro integration, is now shipping with beta drivers (read the fine prints!): http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/ensemble.php http://www.apogeedigital.com/images/ensemble_main.jpg
misterboo
Well, thank goodness for that! I'm going to have to grab one. I bet they're all sold out already with all the pre-orders. Another good toy this month: SSL DUENDE. I jgot mine last week. A few teething difficulties due to the G5 FW silliness, but all seems to be solved now. Really nice unit indeed. Sounds utterly, utterly fantastic!
misterboo
Actually, the idea of beta testing 2 firewire units isn't a fun one. I'll stick with what I've got until the Ensemble is stable and works with the Duende without probs.... .....But Ensemble is sooooo shiny.... ....Must....not......buy........ michael.lee
I gave up on waiting, and bought a Metric Halo. Couldn't be happier. Super clean, great converters, great pres.
misterboo
I gave up on waiting, and bought a Metric Halo. Couldn't be happier. Super clean, great converters, great pres. I've been tempted with both the Fireface and the Metric halo. But, the thing I like about the Ensemble is the two independant headphone outputs with independant levels, plus being able to switch quickly between monitors and headphones. Perfect for me and the vocalist, without having to setup silly routings in Logic, or crawl behind the desk to turn the monitors off.

Stuntcellist
Hi. I've had an Appogee Ensemble unit on order for about 3 months now - and I'm still waiting patiently. I see that the beta drivers won't work for my set-ups (Mac G4 1.6 GHz 17" P-book and Mac G4 dual 1.4 GHz tower running OS 10.4.6 and Logic pro7) -- and I'm getting an unpleasant sinking feeling now. However, as an optomist, I have purchased a S/H Mackie Logic control surface. What I'm dearly hoping is that when (if) the Ensemble arrives, I will be able to use the desk to adjust (ride) the input gains via Logic in live recording situations. Any thoughts?? Cheers Hugh
bugsstar
The G4 is not supported at the moment but the beta drivers do work on G4 but at a reduced performance level. Depends on G4 computer. In the future it will be fully supported. Once you get your ensemble , email them. They'll be very helpful.
Ast A. Moore
independent, not dant. where's the edit button when you need it? Edit->Spelling->Check Spelling as You Type. Works for me.

zebu
got the Apogee Ensemble set up a couple of days ago here in Barcelona. It´s all good so far but the only thing that is bothering us is that there seems to be no way to set the line input levels from hardware or software. The signal is good and clean so of course it can be boosted from inside Logic but it is seriously low when i plug in line outs from a marshall amp or a novation synth, and it´s frustrating not to have some control. Is this an oversight or just the professional way to deal with line signals_?
arimaka
plug your synths through a DI into the MIC INPUT, or through the HI-Z input... You need to match the impedence and level...
zebu
Yes i can of course work round the situation in many different ways, but I am recording many inputs at once. Anyway I am posting on this thread to let people know that this is one of the things that i find a little strange about the Ensemble... i don´t think i have one other piece of equipment, from crappy dj mixers to nice preamps, that don´t have some kind of hardware or software level control for a line input. Why is apogee doing it this way_?
Grizzant
?? You need to look at the Apogee control panel in Logic, or Maestro more carefully to set the line levels at either +4 or -10. All i/o is independently configurable in this regard.
