mapping buttons from Keystation pro 88

Hi all,

I'm quite a newbie to Logic in general... using Keystation pro 88 with MS2 right now.. the knobs and faders are mapped perfectly fine but the buttons... i tried to map button individually but somehow all the buttons react the same way.

for instance if i have 3 instruments at the same time i'd like to map 3 buttons to mute each single instruments when it needs to be. but when i press the first button all channels are muted... same with the rest... i have no idea why.. on screen of the keyboard-each button has a different CC but when i do the 'learn' thing in MS2 it picks all of the buttons as 0 Bank (all of them) any idea how to fix or seperate the buttons?

Thank you in advance

I am having exactly the same problem...

All my buttons (on the right side of the keyboard) are set to controller values ranging from 44 thru 60), but they all do the same thing in Mainstage.

I suspect it has something to do with the LSB value coming up the same in the learn function, but I can't remember how to fix this... ???

I have become very lazy when it comes to midi.... I used to be a bit of a gun with the midi lingo, but Logic has made me lazy.

Interestingly, I have a whole bunch of commands set up with LogicPro and these buttons are all seen separately in Logic, just not mainstage.

Anyone got any tips?

Those controller numbers we are seeing are for the controllers themselves, not the controller numbers that are output. This is where the confusion is.

To make it even more confusing, Logic can differentiate between them (they are bank controller messages by the looks of things) and have them routed to various control surface mappings.

What you/we need to do, is setup a template in the Pro88 that uses basic controller numbers for the various buttons and faders.... Of course, if we use the same patch on the Pro 88 for Logic, we'll have to relearn the maps in the control surface preferences too.

Hope this helps.

No worries... I could send through a Pro88 profile that you could load into it (via the Enigma software), but it would mean remapping your projects and Logic controller preferences if you're using the buttons etc for key commands in Logic.

I'll let you know how I go.

cheers

I think a lot of the confusion about enigma is the terminology they use for the various memory locations and the transmission and reception of data between the computer and device.

Here's how you change them without it. Be careful and get a good idea about what is what before getting into a mess.

Note that the knobs and buttons on the device are given reference numbers. ie the bottom left rotary knob is labelled B10. If you move it, the screens left display says '10' and the right display show the CC value as you move it.

If you press the 'Control Assign' button on the left panel (it's the middle of nine buttons) 'CC' will start flashing on the screen. Now if you move 'B10', it's controller number is displayed where previously its CC value was shown.

Anyway, while it is flashing, use the numeric keypad to type in the 'CC' number that you would like that knob to be assigned to.

If you can get the feel of how this is done, then you'll be well on the way to re-assinging the whole machine manually.

Now back to our original problem... The buttons are assigned to program numbers that have an MSB and LSB... Unfortunately, unlike Logic, Mainstage seems unable to differentiate between these buttons in this state. ie It just sees all of them as 'Program Change' if you like.

So changing them to be controllers will make it work.
