jjoseph
Yesterday I was trying to figure out how to use Flex time in a similar manner to the plugin vocalign. Basically I want to line up a vocal harmony to match the rhythm of the lead vocal %100. I thought this would be simple by just taking the lead vocal and creating a groove template and applying it to the harmony. However in order to make a groove template the lead vocal has to be quantized first. Is there something I'm missing? This would be a great feature and selling point for Logic! nosebagger
I think if you drag a flex marker from one track to another, you can snap it to the second track's flex marker. Tom
jjoseph
Hmmm...True. No way to snap all? it would save tons of time! especially since they are the same track rhythm wise.
nosebagger
Don't think you can snap all, but back to your original question. You don't need to quantize the lead vocal to make a groove template, you only need to enable Flex to make the Quantize menu appear in the Inspector. As long as you leave it set to Off (3840), nothing will be quantized, but you will be able to make a Groove Template, based on the lead vocal's transients, by selecting Make Groove Template. jjoseph
How do you get it to work? I created a groove template for the lead vocal, but when applied to the harmony nothing moves. According to the logic manual: 1. Select the audio or MIDI region you want to create a groove template from. 2 Open the Quantize pop-up menu in the Inspector ’s Region Parameter box, and choose a quantization value. 3 Open the Quantize pop-up menu again, and choose Make Groove Template (or use the corresponding key command). Maybe I need to set a really high quantize value for the lead vocal (64ths) in order to get the harmony to move?? Thanks for all your help! nosebagger
Select the harmony vocal region and make sure that the Flex box is checked in the region parameters in the inspector (this can be enabled on a per region basis). I've got to go out now, but if that doesn't do it, I'll investigate further, later. Tom
nosebagger
... another thing: delete any Flex Markers (if there are any) in the harmony track, as these can't be quantized. Quantize affects the Transients only (they are the vertical light grey lines). Tom
