davidpye
Hi all, Just been workin on a mix today, when I wanted to tighten up a shaker and tamborine part I badly played myself Flex just would NOT work at all. I turned on flex on the channel, it detected transients but then didn't display anything in the flex view, as it would without flex turned on. The song did have some quite intricate beat mapping in it, could this be the cause of the problem? Just so you know I ended up cutting the track manually so it's not a problem now. Has anyone else experienced this?
Eric Wikman
I have not been able to get Flex working on a few projects I moved from my MBP to my MacPro. Flex tool just turns to hand tool when I try to make adjustments. I use it all the time, so I know how to activate it. Can't figure it out. davidpye
Yeah exactly, when I click and drag with the Flex tool, it just moves the region. This is a song I started in Logic 8, but I've used flex on many songs I've started in 8 and it's not been a problem.
David Nahmani
Even on "The Numbers Game" which is the demo Logic 9 session that's installed on your desktop, the Flex tool doesn't work on all tracks. It doesn't work on the horns for example. I assumed that maybe it works only on audio files recorded in Logic 9 - or in the project - kinda like Follow Tempo does? But I haven't tested it yet. davidpye
I've used it on audio that was recorded on Protools, then dropped into a Logic 8 song, which was then opened in Logic 9, I don't think it seems to make a difference. This seems quite random. Detected transients are shown in the Waveform editor but you just don't get the flex view in the arrangement.

This seems quite random. Thanks for reporting that. Then I guess that wasn't it. However, I doubt it would be random - doesn't make much sense? There has to be a reason, even if none of us have nailed it yet. At least that's what I think!
davidpye
I also tried bouncing the files which wouldn't Flex, with Bounce in Place, and it made no difference.
David Nahmani
I also tried bouncing the files which wouldn't Flex, with Bounce in Place, and it made no difference. What about re-recording them (output to a bus, record that bus on a new track)?
ringemaster
Try changing the Flex mode type.

asinla
Flex time is selected on an object basis as well as a track basis. I did not know this and had the same issues. First, select your track on the left of the arrange and go to the Track Parameters box above the channel strip on the left. Choose your flex mode there (slicing, monophonic etc). Then select all or one OBJECT on the track. Now in the object parameter box top left above the track parameter box check the Flex mode button. Now your quantize parameters are available for the selected OBJECT on the track. This is handy for only applying Flex time to certain pieces of your audio. Now when you select the Flex tool you can grab note starts/ends and slide at will. Hope this works for you! It did for me. -A
comeandgoband
I've also used flex mode on tracks recorded in L8 and ProTools, and it worked fine. Can you go into the Sample Editor and increase the transient sensitivity (the + or - button).
qtruck
Flex and beat mapping don't seem to work well together. I spent a long time Flex editing some drum tracks. Closed the project and next time I opened it the tracks were all out of sync. Tried it again and the same thing happened. The kick track would not stay aligned with the rest of the group. medusaproductions
It seemed as though i was having the same issue but what it was, was that I didn't have flex checked in the region parameters. That seemed to fix it.

That seemed to fix it. Well the issue we're talking about is different: you don't have a Flex parameter for a region that never saw the flex tool or a flex mode, and yet clicking that region with the flex tool should give you a flex drop down where you can select a flex mode. What we're saying in this thread is that for some region, clicking with the flex tool doesn't yield that drop down - in fact it doesn't do anything at all. Glenn L. It doesn't work on the horns for example. That's strange. I just loaded that song, selected all tracks, clicked on the Flex tool, and every track I select, horns included, go to the correct Flex window, on 'off' position. I can then select the mode from the Inspector, or in the Flex track itself.

A couple of weeks ago I was on the phone with someone from Apple and told them it didn't work, so they tried, and indeed, it did not work for them either. I cannot explain it. What's also weird is THIS WORKED!!! I opened the track up today, clicked the channel, turned on flex, NOTHING. Checked in the region parameters box, and sure enough none of the regions had flex ticked! Strange considering I'd selected all the regions on the track when first enabling flex, I'd also clicked on the regions with the flex tool directly and that also didn't work! Well initial problem solved, but now, how do we know if the region is being flexed or not? Why wouldn't it be? Sure I understand why you might not want it to be, but when first enabling flex surely all, or none of the regions should be enabled each and every time. No? davidpye
To reiterate this worked for me, and now the parts, flexed, follow the tempo changes in the beat mapping without a problem.
neilfein
I'm having this same exact problem. asinla's solution isn't working for me, but I noticed that the only audio tracks where I'm having this trouble are tracks with multiple takes. Bouncing in place will allow me to use flex editing, although a more elegant solution would be nice!
Mary Martin
Besides all the Flex instructions in the manual, and posted above, there's one thing missing... There's a little check box in the track parameter window named Flex. Click that. And for yucks I clicked Complex in the object parameter box below (not sure this is the right name for it). My guitar track was recorded in ProTools. Full disclosure. Hope it works.
