"Drum Replacer" and "Convert to sampler track

I tried to replace a kick drum that was close miked and the kick hits were extremely obvious on the region

 

the threshold would allow other drum hits that were 1/3 the size of the kicks to be replaced before all the kicks were registered

is there any options or prefs for the "convert to new sampler track" I was so so excited about this new feature, but i am not using it, because it creates way more splices than needed

 

example - giant tom hits with a long decay -instead of creating one splice per tom hit, it would splice 5 times for each tom - the tom was recorded solo - not with a whole kit

 

with 5 splices a tom, there is no possible way to use it as a sampler track

does anyone else have these issues...i feel so alone!!
