AD
Is this normal?... Since installing my new Virus TI Snow in Logic 9 I'm finding random parts have their MIDI notes greyed out - which won't play at all. Like they've disappeared?! It doesn't just affect the Virus MIDI parts; it can affect some of my VSTi synths, too.. I can't seem to work out why? Have a I accidentally flicked some switch that has done this? Or is it more sinister? My project was struggling a bit with memory and cpu overload during heavily automated periods - could that be the cause? I'm having to go through each part and draw each note in again. No idea what has caused this..
steveH
Somehow you've muted them! Like regions, midi note events can, too, be muted. You can unmute them the same way you unmute regions. Steve H
organsymphony
click the note. press the 'm' key. solved? is there a pattern in the notes that are muted? are they all the same pitch? definitely sounds like you've accidentally muted them but if its completely random notes i can't see how... AD
Sometimes I ask questions before really digging in!! Thanks both of you. I've no idea why it seemed like random notes were muted, but for now I will put that down to something I did!! I did initially consider it being muted, but I only tried right-click selecting the MIDI region and selecting 'unmute' which didn't do anything.. But you're right, it was a simple as selecting the notes themselves within the region, and pressing 'm'. "Mystery" solved.. And I learned something in the process
soultasto
Just coming up on this thread... had the same problem...knew it was something easy! Just don't know how it got that way in the first place
steveH
It's because the "m" key near the space bar. I hit it accidentally all the time!
soultasto
Well thanks for trying to make us feel better! It actually happened again after recording several takes of MIDI takes using Superior Drummer 2.0. It records but does not allow me to play it, the 'm' button does not solve the problem. Closing Logic and reopening does, however. Pretty annoying, though. A little buggy?
augiealexander
This just happened to me, and no I didn't accidentally mute the notes, nor is it as simple as unmuting. Muting notes is part of my workflow to see what works and what doesn't. Toggling Mute on a note is how I audition parts within a MIDI region. Strangely enough, When I listened to a pass, I noticed parts were missing. Parts that I wouldn't have muted because they were working. And when examining I notices a bunch of random notes were muted. It was super strange, and it was within the whole project. It wasn't as easy and just selecting all and unmuting, because some of the notes were still being auditioned, so I had to comb thru the whole song three or four times and figure out which ones shouldn't be muted. I saved-as and I will be on alert for this happening again. BTW, I'm still Snow Leopard, Logic 9 and loving it (except for these occasional mishaps)
