Creating a standard midi file that works properly

Hello there,

I want to learn how to clean up or rid a standard midi file of unwanted 'takes' or 'composite takes'.

I'm making SMFs for a sound designer friend and when he open's it, its full of redundant 'takes'.

1. How can I get rid of those extra unwanted takes?

2. When I open my SMF, all the tracks are played back with a grand piano default sound instead of the sounds originally chosen in the session file.

How can I set the SMF to play the original session sounds?

Thanks in advance.

In Logic, it is strongly recommended to select and merge all regions for a certain track before SMF export.

You need to "Create" midi data patch information like MSB/LSB ( bank info ), Program change, CC7 ( Level ), CC10 ( Pan ), CC91 ( reverb send level ), etc.... so your file can be compatible with all GM devices ( using Event List, Hyper Draw etc ).

All that is not needed if you intend to export SFM from one DAW and import to another DAW to use with software instruments ( most do not support GM standard messages, thats why you assign them manually in the 2nd DAW ).
