Logic or Ableton ?

Recommended Posts

A friend is trying to get me to change to Ableton from Logic 8/9 as its already 64bit, but my question is ....is it as good as Logic ?

I'm tired of running out of memory, the libraries are getting ever bigger and my work is becoming more and more restricted by Logics memory limitations.

Will I be able to use all of my current libraries, apple loops etc ?

thanks

Paul

No I dont think it does, I'm used to working in a linear way. I just want a set-up that wont crash after I load 8 or 9 orchestral instruments.

At this point you run that risk no matter what DAW you choose. What you may want to read up on is the ability for EXS, Kontakt 3.5, etc., and their ability to access memory space outside of Logic's application space.

As for EXS:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1041

For Kontakt 3.5 and 4.0, from their update announcement:

". . . the newly-created Memory Server feature bypasses the OS X's 4 GB limit and can address as much RAM as you have installed - even in 32-bit hosts such as Logic or ProTools."

Shame I cant import the East Weststuff into EXS24.

Is it the Play Edition or something? I thought that had some kind of mem management. Anyway, if you start a new thread in the Control Room forum titled "Orchestral Samples and Memory" or something like that, you'll get some responses from folks who work with this stuff more than I do.
