Kerouac
Hey all... Wanted to give a quick shout out (as I have in the past) to David's book, which has been incredibly helpful to me since I switched from Sonar over to Logic. I'm nearing the end of the book and am starting to wonder "What's the next step?" I know there is a second level of the Logic book by a different David, called "Logic pro 8: Beyond the Basics." I've also seen "Logic Pro Audio 8: Audio and Music Production" which I've read good things about. I was wondering if you all had some further recommendations for something to pick up. I received a nice discount coupon from Borders that I'd like to get down to use! Also, apologies if this isn't the right forum for this. I'm still kind of getting used to this place and it's organization.
David Nahmani
I recommend David Dvorin's book as a logical next step to my book. There are also tons of videos tutorials out there, some better than others.... but don't be afraid of the manual either. Working with the Instrument and Effects manual while tweaking the corresponding plug-in in Logic can do wonders to your understanding of the plug-ins. And as you progress, ask your questions here! Kerouac
Thanks David! The Instruments and Effects book is currently my "Crapper" Bible. I'll go ahead and snag Mr. Dvorin's book then... thanks!
David Nahmani
The Instruments and Effects book is currently my "Crapper" Bible. Nothing wrong with that - Mc Cartney once said he wrote his most beautiful love songs on the crapper - but really to get the most out of it you should be tweaking as you read. Otherwise the information doesn't really penetrate your entire being, staying there at the surface.

That's true, except I already have a good understanding of the fundamentals of compression, delays, etc. I do go in and tweak later, and try to lsiten to how they sound. I just kind of skim to see the different plugs parameters. Still, I'll take this under advice and give it a shot tonight. 8)
David Nahmani
Right - to be honest when I wrote that I was more thinking of learning an ES2 or EVD6.. with some of the parameters quite cryptic until you try them. Compressors, Delays... those are quite different beasts - and I understand you don't need to tweak them "live" as you learn.
Kerouac
Well, the book came in today! Unfortunately, yesterday a pipe burst in my apartment and to get to it they had to cut a huge hole out of my studio wall, so everything is covered by plastic and out of the way until they can fix the wall on Tuesday. This has so not been a good week for me.
David Nahmani
WOW, hey at least none of your gear got damaged... right?
Kerouac
Nope, but my kitchen got wrecked. All kinds of nasty sediment and sludge poured all over it. All the cabinets needed to be bleached out and unmildewed, new contact paper down every dish, utensil, silverware, etc. has to be washed by hand, since I have no dishwasher. The studio has busted up drywall, drywall dust and exposed pipes open. I taped plastic around the pipe hole just so that nothing decides to spray last minute, but everything had to be shoved to the far side of the room. Hopefully it'll actually be done by Thursday, but my landlord is pretty bad about doing things promptly. The plan was to just work in their all weekend, but that obviously got dashed. Then my plan was to play a lot of Xbox and today the power supply s#!+ the bed, so this whole weekend is basically a wash.
