bscenefilms
I recently recorded a band with the ole mobile setup and the drummer had both timing and volume issues. The timing was easy to fix (thank you Flex!), but the guy was hitting the kick very hard when he would accent the snare. I played around with compressing it but the results are not very good. Is there any way to reduce the volume of the kick say every 5th hit or so? TIA! Mike

However if the input signal is clipped, that's hard to impossible to properly fix. If so you might look into replacing the kick with an internal drum instrument kick -- with the new flex system in LP9 it should not be so hard. bscenefilms
It's not clipped - Automation...Oy vey. I presume you mean going in and setting automation points for each kick that needs adjustment? Or is there some automagic way to make Automation trim the gain at specific time intervals? If you use a compressor for the kick it will even out the volume to some degree so you have a uniform level. Might suck out some of the life of a kick but most productions have extremely compressed kicks anyway.
bscenefilms
Yeah I tried compressing but I don't like the result.
Kent Sandvik
Yeah I tried compressing but I don't like the result. You could go the opposite and put a limiter and adjust the level so each of the offening levels are limited to some degree. Again, it might or might not sound good. This is where automation is nicer as you could tailor the levels, a lot of work but you get exactly what you need. Or tell the drummer to work on his kick technique. bscenefilms
Bleh - OK, looks like automation will be the way to go then. Thanks gents.
