grooveroom
Here i am with one of those workflow-questions again... Is it possible to make an automation node snap&stick to region boundaries? When i lengthen a region, i always have to grab and move the automation with it manually, in (an) additional step(s)-- that can get really ugly, when there's more then one automation-parameter. My workaround up till now, is to 1. cut the edge of the region of, 2. move the tiny new helper region(with all automation) to the desired bar, 3. delete that helper region 4. finally drag out the region boundary I know there has to be a better way to do this! cheers, grooveroom
yamahadrums
Yes, there is a workaround. Let's say you resize the region-make it shorter. Then part of the automation will stay outside this region. Hit Ctrl+Command+E to open the Automation event list. Now from Window menu choose Arrange to open the Automation arrange window. Now you'll see all the automation like regions. You must know, that the automation region is always a little bit longer then the normal region corresponding in the normal arrange page. Resize the automation region so it's length is exactly the same as the MIDI region, then hold Option and drag to the desired length. So before you do anything go to the Automation arrange page and resize the automation region so it is the exact same length as it's normal region(audio or MIDI). fader8
Just to add some notes to this . . . 1. The Automation Event List must have the window focus when you instantiate a new Automation Arrange window. Otherwise you'll just get another regular Arrange window. 2. Be sure you are "option-resizing" the automation region, which will time stretch/compress the automation data.
nosebagger
Here's another way for you: 1. After resizing your region, move the Playhead to the edge of the resized region. (This is an assignable key command. Mine is set to Shft-Rtn for left edge, Ctl-Shft-Rtn for right edge - which I think is the default.) 2. Select the automation nodes you want to move. 3. Open the Automation Event List. 4. Press the key command for Pickup Clock and the selected automation will move to the Playhead position (provided to Aotmation Event List has key focus). nosebagger
... actually, this method can cause problems when making the region longer, as the length of the automation region doesn't always update automatically. This leads to the automation nodes not reading as they end up outside the boundaries of the automation region. The fastest way I can think of to rectify that situation would be to open the Automation Arrange Page, select all (as hunting down specific automation regions can be difficult in big templates) and press Ctrl-B to resize region borders to fit the region contents.
