guavadude
I'm trying to import my main L8 autoload template into L9 on a G5 running 10.5.7. I've selected everything in my L8 autoload using the Media Browser, and then I get an error saying it's been converted from Windows and I have a bad text block. So I add all tracks and then the template has changed all of my bus settings and routings are different and my multi channel instruments have all been converted to single channel instruments. Even some of my track icons are changed. Do I need to start over and build a new template or is this a pref problem, or is the importing of L8 projects jicky. Also when I use an L8 template in L9 on my MacPro running 10.5.7, I get a 5 second hang every time I record or capture record midi. I don't get this problem if I use a new blank L9 project. emilenitrate
My advice is to rebuild your templates from scratch in L9. I had a much milder situation but I was having trouble implementing some of the new features and when I finally constructed new templates those issues cleared right up. Open a new project and start from there. You'll spend less time creating new templates now than you will pulling your hair out later trying to figure out why things don't work. - Emile
guavadude
yeah, that's what I figured. I just thought the windows error was strange and wondering if anyone else has seen that. also the hang on record is pretty serious, worth rebuilding just to make that go away. thx

After a week of trying to deny the ugly truth I rebuilt it from scratch. Took a while but cleaned out all the gremlins.
David Nahmani
I also had all kinds of voodoo (key commands getting mixed up, weird automation delays) when I brought my main 8 template into 9. Mark, did you just open your Logic 8 template in Logic 9? We know that's never going to work properly (I'm repeatedly telling everyone who will listen not to work with the same Logic files across major Logic versions). Oh and Key Commands have nothing to do with Project files, but with preference files. But here Guavadude is discussing IMPORTING tracks from his Logic 8 template into Logic 9, which is, in a way, rebuilding his template in Logic 9. This is the first time I hear of problems when importing tracks from an older template - and it's bad news. Guava, was your template, indeed, coming from an older version, or even, as the alert says, from a Windows version? Or was it created in Logic 8? Did you add anything to that template that was downloaded (a multi-instrument, anything in the environment...) that may have been created in a Windows version? guavadude
It's been awhile but I'm pretty sure I rebuilt my template after having the same kind of trouble moving from L7 o L8 and hearing your warnings then. It could have come from L7 which might better explain why the multi instruments were getting all messed up. I've never worked off Windows. All I know is that I've started from scratch, rebuilt my L9 kitchen sink template and will work from there. It's also a good time to tweak the template and make a few changes for the better. I just wish there was a way to save a template with no content.....midi or audio. It always seems that I'm half way through a project when I make some tweaks that I wish were in my template. But if I save now then I get all of the content as well.

Just get rid of the content and save as template. You can then revert to saved. If that scares you, you can first do a save as.
guavadude
yeah I just wish there was a check box when saving a template that lets you choose what you want included. I sent feedback to Apple. I'm sure they'll jump right on that.
