Crackling sound...

Been running Logic Pro for almost two years without a hitch. Then about two weeks ago I hit play and the music starts crackling. The only way to get rid of the crackling is to restart and open Logic up again. This seems to solve for a while and then for no reason it comes back. I don't know where to begin to troubleshoot this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions?

You don't mention your interface, version of Logic or version of OS X. When it's doing this, before you quite Logic, try playing something in iTunes. Does that sound crackly also? If so, it's likely to be a core audio problem not a Logic one.

I get this occasionally with my Apogee Duet when powering up my Motif XS8 while the computer is booted (which makes it see a new interface as the XS is connected using mLAN over FW). I find disconnecting the Apogee and reconnecting it 'resets' everything nicely, which would suggest it's a driver issue.

I'm running Logic Pro 8 on a Mac Pro 2.66 dual-core OS 10.5.8 with a Presonus Firewire Project interface. I do get the crackling sound when I try to listen to music on iTunes. Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll update the drivers and see if that helps.
