Obsessing over BPM's

I'm so worried about getting the BPM's wrong on my metronome. This is important because I'm recording all the parts by myself so I can't really get a live scratch track, so I need to kind of just get it right off the bat. Do you guys have any techniques for getting the right BPMs?

Good! You've identified the problem. (Not being snarky -- I'm being sincere). Now it's time for a solution, and here it is:

Yes you can! Just turn off the metronome and play live. And no, it doesn't matter what the metronome is set to when you record. Just make sure the damn thing is off when you go into record. Afterwards, beat-map what you played to find the BPM.

...so I need to kind of just get it right off the bat.

And you can. Just play. Only you will know the right tempo. So just turn off the metronome and play. Then beatmap. Then? Happiness!
