Using built in microphone on Macbook Pro

Sitting in a hotel room with my brand new Apogee Ensemble and Rode NT1A in my suitcase but no cannon lead! Thought I would lay down some scratch vocals using the inbuilt mic on my Macbook Pro. Have gone into System Preferences and chosen this in built input and see the level meter moving as expected - sound is going in. However, Logic is dead to this input. I have looked all through the Logic Settings and Preference menus but can't find anything to bring it to life using the in-built mike.

Not a life an death situation (I will arrive at my destination and have a canon lead shortly) but I am curious as to whether I can use the built in mike and feel that I should be able to?

i have used the pinhole a bunch of times. you should be able to set it up the same way as anything else. system preferences/built in mic, and then open Logic and go to preferences/audio and click on built in mic.

here's a tune i did with it (the goal was not to use anything other than the actual computer-no outboard gear like mics or keys - it's an electro-dub-tango BTW):

Thanks very much - so simple - I was using built in input instead of built in mic.

Your track is awesome. I am just starting out (at age 57) and it was very inspirational.

heck yeah; thanks for listening to the tune. I see you play banjo, very cool. I just bought one for $20 that someone made out of an old snare drum and an electric guitar neck. not exactly traditional, but has the vibe.

glad you got that mic working. seems like it's always something silly that got overlooked.

hi, i seem to be having a similar problem. but instead of the mic being dead, there's a really loud screeching noise when the audio track is record enabled and if there's even the slightest bit of noise. in the audio preferences, i only have one option for the input, which is built in input, there's no other option! what should i do?

Probably feedback - the sound is coming out of your speakers, picked up by the mic, fed to the speakers, picked up by the mic etc.

Try plugging headphones in for a quick fix.
