buzwah
Is anyone out there in Logic land using the M-Audio Prokeys 88 weighted keyboard? I'm sick of the M-Audio Axiom 61 action (very uninspiring to play) as a piano player. Missing the weight of the keys under my fingers and my chops are suffering. If anyone has an opinion good or bad please share as I'm considering the change. The reason I'm interested in the M-Audio is basically price. Compared to Yamaha, Kurzweil it's half the price. earlwgreen
Hi buzwah, I have both the M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 (controller) and the Prokeys 88. I use the Prokeys 88 at church every week and it's not bad. It's not as nice as the Yamaha but better than synth action. The sounds are not that good to me, so if you want it for controlling something, it's fine. Just remember that playing some soft synths you will not like the feel for certain sounds. I do use XP-50 from time to time if the sound I want is easier to play on synth keys. Hope this makes sense!
buzwah
Thanks Earl for the response. I think I know what you mean about how some synth sounds feel better to play on a synth action. I am just missing the weight of a piano so I suppose the best thing for me would be to go into a store and give one a try.
bcfromfl
I don't have a good suggestion for you with respect to specific models, but back a few weeks ago when I was zeroing in on key action for a controller (decided that semi was best for me, given I need it for other instruments as well), I auditioned the key action of many of the major manufacturers at a local music store. My favorite for weighted was a Roland...a slight edge over Yamaha, although there might be a better Yamaha that I didn't try. The Roland felt a tad more expressive to me -- really rewarded a soft touch. Might be worth a look. -Bruce
earlwgreen
Bruce, I gree with you. I really like the feel of the Roland more than the Yamaha even. But, I have an old Baldwin Studio from the 40's and it's action is light but responsive. I guess I like is better than the new Yamahas I've tried. If you want to pay more, go with the Roland. I just chose the M-Audio because of cost.
