jfwmix
Please email me if you have an answer for my question johnfwilkinson@comcast.net I just sold my PT HD system and moved to Logic Pro 9 and am about to purchase a 003 rack as my I/O. Here is what I want to do, just making sure this will work : • run LOGIC using a Digi 003 rack as my I/O • use the SPDIF and go I/O of my Universal Audio 2192 as my main outs while mixing in Logic • use the 2192 as the word clock master, slaving the 003 rack to the 2192 I'm assuming that Logic will see all 18 (8 analog, 8 ADAT, 2 SPDIF) I/O's on the 003, correct? Thanks for your replies!
jacenty
I'm sure there were other considerations but you could have used the HD rig with Logic via the TDM architecture. >• run LOGIC using a Digi 003 rack as my I/O Yes. 003 will work via Core Audio. However digi's drivers suck in that department, so be prepared to reboot your system before working in Core Audio mode. >• use the SPDIF and go I/O of my Universal Audio 2192 as my main outs while mixing in Logic This I'm not sure but sounds reasonable. I see a 'Mirror analog outs 1 & 2 to digital outs' option. >• use the 2192 as the word clock master, slaving the 003 rack to the 2192 Yep. Digi's Core Audio panel let's you set clock source. >I'm assuming that Logic will see all 18 (8 analog, 8 ADAT, 2 SPDIF) I/O's on the 003, correct? Once again, never tested such setup but 18 ins is what they advertise. You may want to contact Digi before making the purchase or post on their forums if you haven't already. Thanks for the quick reply. The quick of it was I decided having about $12k in proprietary hardware that I rarely used was not a wise choice. Even in PTHD, I purchased Native versions of all the plugs (except where only TDM was available). As far as listening out 17/18, it should be fine in LOGIC, but probably not so fine with iTunes or other apps where you cannot select your I/O as it defaults to 1/2 which will be 1/2 on the 003. RIght now, I have an M-Audio 2626 with M-Powered (which has the same 8+8+2 I/O), so maybe I'll just stay with this. THere has been little to no drama with the 2626 and Logic. I know through experience and talking to several other users that the Digi Core Audio drivers are not the best when it comes to using 3rd party software. jacenty
The 'Mirror analog outs 1 & 2 to digital outs' option is in the underlying Digi Core Audio panel, so it should affect iTunes. Again... be prepared to reboot your machine often. For me the drivers sometimes get stuck after using iTunes (or any other Core Audio app) and there's nothing you can do but reboot. It's pretty unclear what is Digi up to right now. PT LE/MP lack delay compensation, they just announced another version (super limited) and it's all a bit of a mess. I don't think you will gain anything by getting 003 in place of the 2626. LE is limited to a few audio interfaces, MP has a wider choice. Feature wise, they're the same... for now. Anyway, welcome to Logic and the forum. Stick around. This is a good place to learn.
triplets
Digi hardware is supposed to be used with PTools. Logic and Digi drivers is never a smooth combo. You're better off getting some other interface for Logic, like RME or Apogee.
davidpye
I thought digis coreaudio driver only let you use the first 8 inputs/outputs on their devices. Maybe in getting confused with the HD stuff.
