Video File won't load in Logic?

I received a video from someone that wants me to add the music. Not sure what a "picture lock" is, but that's what it's supposed to be. Anyway, the video plays on my Mac, but won't load directly into a Logic program.

Can someone tell me the procedure to use from video to a file that can work in Logic Pro.

I've been sent .mov and wmv files in the past. I know about changing the wmv using Flip For Mac, but not how to format an actually DVD video for Logic Pro.

Thanks for any help you can send my way.

Best, John :)

I highly recommend the free MPEG Streamclip for converting VOB to a quicktime file....just make sure you don't pick a codec that uses GOP (group of pictures) compression (like H.264) when converting to quicktime, because those are too processor-intensive to decode (playback in Logic will become sluggish). Choose one of the DV codecs instead, or even Photo JPEG (from Export to Quicktme in the File menu in MPEG Streamclip).

Will it convert the video (VOB) to a .mov file? Or is a Quicktime file a .mov? All I need is a file that will work in Logic Pro.

Thanks, John

Quicktime is the format and .mov is its extension. You need a codec (compression) to go from VOB to Quicktime.

.mov is a container. Kinda like .caf for audio. You can put many different formats in a .mov file. You can put all sorts of audio formats, text, movie formats, etc... in a .mov file.

Jordito,

I see two versions of MPEG Streamclip. Is the "beta" version the best one to use?

Thanks, John :)

First off, thanks for all your help here. Everything seems to be working fine.

I finished the intro of the video and would like to bounce it to a .mov file so I can send it to the client and see if I'm headed in the right direction.

How do make a a .mov file from this project?

Thank you so much!

John :)
