natdame
Hi-- So I add a new track from a software instrument, clicking the "multi-timbral" option to put different sounds from the same location (SampleTank for instance). I put 16 tracks. Then, when I go press the Mixer tab, there is only one channel strip for the entire thing. How do I create a different channel strip for each track so I can mix them separately as if they were separate instruments? Thanks.
Scott Jackson
If you loaded the instrument "Multi Output" the one channel strip you have in the mixer will have a + button below the Solo button. Use it to add the additional channel strips.
natdame
I've tried that. It adds an AUX channel. Then when I reassign the track to that channel, there is no instrument attached to it, so there is no sound.
Scott Jackson
Control Click each Aux channel strip and select Create/Select Arrange Track.
natdame
Okay, then what?
Scott Jackson
If you have different sounds on the 16 tracks that you originally created then just drag the Regions from those tracks to the Aux tracks, delete those old 16 tracks and mix. Scott Jackson
Control Click each Aux channel strip and select Create/Select Arrange Track. Forgot to mention, you can select all of the Aux channels strips in the mixer by Shift Clicking them and then Control Click one of them, select Create/Select Arrange Track and each Aux channel strip will create a new Arrange Track in one step. natdame
Wait-- It's still not working. I dragged the track down but no sound comes out.
camillo jr
You should leave your midi tracks on their original tracks where you created them. Don't put them on the aux tracks, that's not going to work. The multi instrument needs them on their original tracks so that it can be played by them. What may be missing here after you've created the auxes is to make sure each instrument inside the MT instrument is assigned to a proper output. I don't know how it works in SampleTank but in Kontakt for instance you have to go in to each instrument's slot and change it's output from 1-2 (the default) to something else. You leave the first one as 1-2, then the next is 3-4 and so on.
natdame
I'm working on another project with the same problem. There is no plus sign under the Solo button. How do I add an AUX track in that case?
David Nahmani
I'm working on another project with the same problem. There is no plus sign under the Solo button. How do I add an AUX track in that case? You have to click-hold the instrument on the channel strip and choose its multi-output format.
natdame
Cool, thanks I tried that. I put it at Multi Output 15Xmono But all the tracks spiked out permanently. They are all in the red at 6.0 and there's nothing I can do that seems to help.
David Nahmani
Try restarting the audio engine: Preferences > Audio, deselect, then reselect "Enabled". Close the window.
natdame
Okay... Didn't work. Any other ideas? My real goal is to take the multi-timbral input (different sounds into one Instrument) and make it so that I can mix the different tracks separately so they are not all on the same channel strip. The only other way I know how is to load a different instrument into each track, which clogged it the last time I tried. I had about 20 instruments and it kept shutting down on me... David Nahmani
Didn't work. Meaning? All meters are still shooting up all the way in the red?
natdame
Yes, I tried the Disable/Enable trick and it didn't work. All the meters on all tracks are spiking all the way into red.
David Nahmani
Yes, I tried the Disable/Enable trick and it didn't work. All the meters on all tracks are spiking all the way into red. So just disable and close the window. The meters are no longer in the red, correct?
natdame
Ok-- I disabled. Correct, the meters are no longer in the red.
David Nahmani
And now if you re-enable they go back in the red, correct? If no, great. If yes, then start disabling all 3rd party plug-ins from the Mixer (Option-click to bypass), then again disable and re-enable the audio engine. natdame
Now what? How do I divide the instrument into different tracks and separate the tracks to different mixing channels? Thanks.
David Nahmani
natdame, I can't help you unless you answer my questions and let me know what you've done, and what results you get, etc....
natdame
You're last post was on page 2 and I didn't see it. That's why my last post was weird... What is a third party plug in? Thanks.
David Nahmani
You're last post was on page 2 and I didn't see it. That's why my last post was weird... I see! What is a third party plug in? Any plug-in that you bought "aftermarket", that wasn't part of the Logic package.
natdame
So, the SampleTank and Miroslav instruments that I am trying to use? I am lost. Can we start over? How do I do this: I want to take the multi-timbral input (different sounds into one Instrument) and make it so that I can mix the different tracks separately so they are not all on the same channel strip. The only other way I know how is to load a different instrument into each track, which clogged it the last time I tried. I had about 20 instruments and it kept shutting down on me... How do I start? I want to use a multi-timbral input so I don't clog it, but I want to be able to mix the different sounds on separate channels. Thanks.
David Nahmani
Actually the question that I wanted you to answer was this: And now if you re-enable they go back in the red, correct?
David Nahmani
I am lost. Can we start over? What's the point? I would give you the same answers I already gave you earlier in the thread. You were getting there, the problem is the spiking into the red - isn't that what we're trying to solve now?
natdame
Sorry, just getting frustrated and don't see where this is going... Okay I option clicked to bypass the SampleTank instruments.
