kowalski
Hi I have only two usb ports on my macbook, one of which is being used by my Oxygen. I want to try a Nanokontrol. 1) Do I simply connect it to my free usb port? I thought I was going to have to get a midi-interface, but the Nanokontrol doesn't have a midi out (other than usb). 2) And what if I want to try another bit of usb-only gear (eg, Nanopad)? I keep hearing that using usb hubs with Logic is not a good idea. Is there such a thing as a midi-interface that can accept multi-usb inputs? Noobish questions. Cheers. kowalski
So what do you do if you only have two usb ports and you want to use more than two midi devices that are usb only and you've been told not to use a usb hub with logic? Is it a no can do?
michael2
for what it's worth: i used the worlds cheapest piece of garbage USB hub for maybe 2 years and never had any problems.
David Nahmani
Use a USB hub anyway! Seriously I'm not sure why you've been told that. There should be no problem. I used to use USB hubs all the time on my MacBook when Logic required a USB dongle. I haven't used one since but I can't see why it would be a problem. Try it and see how it works for yourself? David Nahmani
You're welcome kowalski. Mines were tiny $10 four port passive hubs. Perfect.
kowalski
Mines were tiny $10 four port passive hubs. Perfect. You mean I can get away with a hub that's not powered? That'd be great.
skylark
You mean I can get away with a hub that's not powered? Absolutely. I have the Nano suite, they came a 3x1 USB hub, and it's just plug n' play. No probs...
