Rossco1
Hi guys, I've noticed that Logic 8 on my G5 has been running slower than usual. The CPU meter is showing red when only about ten tracks are playing. I have been freezing the tracks to speed things up but am wondering why this is happening. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
n6smith
Probably the first step is to check the activity monitor (in your applications/utilities folder) and see if anything else is running that is using up any significant CPU time while you are running Logic... Maybe something you installed recently? Also make sure you turn off Time Machine as that can, under some circumstances, really drag your system down. Also, have you changed or added anything new to your hardware recently? Finally, I assume you have tried the good old "Completely shut down and restart' your Mac to ensure nothing 'bad' is eating up memory or lurking around... gdoubleyou
Also how much free disk space do you have on your system drive? 8)
Rossco1
Hi Gdub, Thanks for writing back. I have 11 gig left on a 300 gig drive. Is that not enough?
triplets
Not enough. 20 % free at least, so in your case that would be 60 gigs. Right now you're choking your hard drive with less than 4 % free. Bad idea.
David Nahmani
Hi Gdub, Thanks for writing back. I have 11 gig left on a 300 gig drive. Is that not enough? Not enough, no, The more available space the better, ESPECIALLY for a system drive, where the system needs extra space to page virtual memory in and out of the RAM, but try at the very least 15-20%. Personally with a 300G system drive I'd try to keep data below 200G.

David Nahmani
Hi Kent, What is omnidisksweeper? Where do I get it? What does it do? Regards, I had the same question - quickly answered with google: OmniDiskSweeper is a Mac OS X utility for quickly finding and deleting big, useless files and making space on your hard disks. http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnidisksweeper/
Kent Sandvik
The full version is free nowadays, as well. Every time my boot drive gets crowded I start Omnidisksweeper and find tons of unnecessary files to be removed.
