drygruo
I'm playing a line with MIDI keyboard that involves holding one note down an hitting others for a monophonic synth line, and it sounds perfect, but when I listen back, only the notes hit while holding the other key down are coming through. I can see a steady MIDI line of the note being held down, but only the struck ones are audible. What is happening?
Kent Sandvik
Let's see if I understood you correctly, you are using a monophonic synth playing multiple notes at the same time and expecting polyphonic output?
Rev. Juda Sleaze
I don't think so. Sounds like the 1st note is beginning before the playhead position, or region beginning. A MIDI note will only sound if the playhead passes the start of the note.
drygruo
The riff I am playing consists of holding one note and hitting another in a staccato manner, so that they don't play at the same time but there is no space between notes. A monophonic warble sound. So, the first note is being held constantly while the other note is hit, so the MIDI registers two notes being played at the same time, but since it is a monophonic synth, only one is heard. My issue is that during playback, the constant note is not heard at all, even between the staccato notes, so there is a gap. Upon further investigation tonite, sometimes during playback it is playing that note and sometimes it is not. Any ideas? Also, what do you mean playhead? This riff is actually in the middle of a song session, so it shouldn't have to wait any time before a note is heard.
Rev. Juda Sleaze
Upon further investigation tonite, sometimes during playback it is playing that note and sometimes it is not. Any ideas? Does that depend on where you start playing the song from? Does the first, held note begin before the midi region starts? Is it a Logic synth, or a 3rd party one? Also, what do you mean playhead? I'm sure the manual explains what the playhead is far better than I could.
Scott Jackson
So, the first note is being held constantly while the other note is hit, so the MIDI registers two notes being played at the same time, but since it is a monophonic synth, only one is heard. Play your note (held) on your original track. Make a New Track with Duplicate Setting and record your other note(s) on the duplicate track.
