Assigning controls using the fill up feature

Hi,

 

I'm trying to assign controls using the fill up feature as described in the Dvorin Logic Pro 9 Advanced book. Basically I've assigned the 1-8 knobs on my axiom 25 to my volume faders on tracks 1-8, and now I want to map those same 8 knobs to my pan controls on the same tracks 1-8 using zones. Doing my nut in as the fill up technique refuses to work.

 

I'm doing the following... (having already set up my axiom knobs 1-8 for volume faders on tracks 1-8 )

 

Command-L, click pan 1, twiddle my no. 1 knob. I get a dialogue box asking if I want to keep both controls or reassign, so I click keep both. Done.

Then click pan 8, twiddle my no. 8 knob, I get another dialogue box asking if I want to keep both controls or reassign, so I click keep both. Done.

Command-L to deselect learn mode.

Now, I would expect a third dialogue box asking me if I want Logic to auto fill between the two assignments 1 and 8... but I'm not getting this at all.

 

Anyone know why this might be?
