Soundhound
Dumb question of the month I'm sure, but. How do you do that? When I try to grab one and move it, it starts to select the next channel strip in a group etc. How do you just rearrange them, move one several strips over, etc? thanks! And sorry for the dumb question!! I tried to find the answer in the materials, I swear!!

Soundhound
Thanks. So the only way to rearrange tracks is in the envrionment section? Is there no way to do that in the mixer section? http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=61692&highlight=rearrange+channel+strips+mixer

Soundhound
Interesting, thanks Scott. I admit to be environment-ignornant, looks like I need to learn that. Anyone know the purpose of this, (or have the patience for a short explanation as to) why this sort of thing is done in the environment, and not in the mixer? Thanks. Soundhound
Okay there must be something very basic I'm not understanding here. It seems as thought the enviroment is for routing midi. But what I'm looking to do is gain better control of the mixer in various situations. If for example, say I'm doing some scoring (which I am) and I am trying out an idea for a cue which uses four tracks of instruments (which it does). What I'd like to do is have easy access to those four channel strips to control levels. My thought was to grab the various tracks in the mixer and put them next to each other. Simple, right? I must not be understanding something very basic about how Logic is organized. Could anyone help me see how to accomplish this, and perhaps what my basic misunderstanding is? Again, many thanks! Scott Jackson
Interesting, thanks Scott. You're welcome! Anyone know the purpose of this, (or have the patience for a short explanation as to) why this sort of thing is done in the environment, and not in the mixer? I'd love to offer an explanation but unfortunately I don't have one. It would be nice to be able to rearrange the channels strips in the mixer freely. I had thought of the fact that you can rearrange the tracks in the Arrange and the Mixer would then rearrange the order of the channel strips. So, in theory, you could create Arrange tracks for your Aux channel strips and move them around that way, then hide the Aux tracks in the Arrange but my test shows that when you hide the Aux tracks in the Arrange, the Aux channels strips move back to their default positions in the Mixer. Soundhound
Thanks again Scott. So can you bring up several different environments, each customized for a particular group of tracks? Or is there just one environment per project? I'm trying to find a way to get control of having a Okay there must be something very basic I'm not understanding here. Soundhound
I was just reviewing some of the lessons in the MacProVidei series for Logic, and came upon the basic thing that I'd forgotten. When you move tracks in the arrange window, they should move their related channel strips in the mixer. So if you have tracks 1 -10 in the arrange window and move track 10 before track 9, the same thing should happen in the mixer window. The problem is this doesn't seem to be happening for me. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Is this a bug perhaps?
redlogic
The problem is this doesn't seem to be happening for me. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Is this a bug perhaps? Make sure the Arrange tab is selected in the Mixer. Maybe read up on Screensets in Logic. Using the Mixer layer of the Environment, you can arrange any channel strips any way you want and save it as a recallable Screenset. For example: Screenset 1 = Audio channel strips Screenset 2 = Software Instrument channel strips (with their Auxes if multi-output) Screenset 3 = Effects Return Aux channel strips Screenset 4 = Whatever

camillo jr
In a perfect Logic world, the mixer would have some empty buttons at the top for user mixer presets. You could label them. You could put anything you wanted in them. You could shift-select any track in the mixer, then click on an empty button and a dialogue would come up asking "Make Mixer Template?" If you selected an already used one, it would ask, "Replace Mixer Template?" If you wanted to add or subtract channels from this custom mixer, you could control-click a channel and "Add to user mixer" would be in the menu and maybe a dialogue would pop up about which mixer to add to. Or maybe some form of drag and drop could be utilized. Damn, that would be nice. But failing that, here's another way. Create some blank regions on the tracks in the arrange that you want to appear in your custom mixer. Now select the blank regions and Pack Folder. Yellow link the mixer. Now if you select this folder, any tracks that are in the folder will now appear in the yellow linked mixer. You can have several folders with different tracks in them that once selected, will cause the mixer to follow suit and display only those tracks. (Exception - if Mixer>View>Add Signal Flow Channel Strips is checked, then auxes will also show up in your custom mixer.) The name of the mixer will also be the same as the folder's name. If you want to go back to the regular mixer, enable the mixer's purple link. Once you get the hang of this, it's quite easy to create a dedicated screenset with some folder regions on top and a yellow linked mixer on the bottom that will snap to display any custom mixer you can dream of via folders. Of course, you can do the same thing by actually putting your real regions in a folder but that creates some other limitations that you may not want. By using blank regions, you can have any combination of tracks in a custom mixer and have some of the same tracks in different mixers.
Soundhound
That would be great! Any moderators here? Is there a place on the site or elsewhere where this could be put in some suggestion box for Apple to look at? Seems eminently, err, Logical... And your strategy seems terrific, thanks south for taking the time to pass it along. I'll give it a try. What is 'yellow linking'? Thanks! camillo jr
That'll make the mixer follow your folder selections. Edit: Funny, Scott's more detailed answer wasn't there just a minute ago on my browser. But that about says it.
