charmingnerd
Is there any way to assign a rotary knob to the tempo?

charmingnerd
Thanks for the advice. Seems a little complicated for my needs, but good to know. I really just want to be able to adjust the tempo easily when I sit down to write with the guitar. Basically, I start messing around on the guitar until I find something I like. Now I want to figure out what the tempo is. I tried using tap tempo, but I can't get it to work right. For now, I am just using a metronome on my iPhone to figure it out and then entering it into Logic. It would still be nice if there was a global way to adjust it. I usually activate the Click during play part of the metronome, play a little bit, and then set the tempo to what I am playing. Once I have that set, I can start to record. A variation on what's already been suggested is.... Download the freeware (I think it's still freeware) "The Tapper". Just keep it handy...maybe in your Dock... and when you feel that groove, open the Tapper and start grooving on your spacebar. The Tapper averages out the last bunch of taps and shows you what tempo you're at. I find that you need to do it for a bit... maybe 30 seconds... to see a good average indication of your tempo. Works great for me, without disrupting the groove. Hope that helps a little..
charmingnerd
Yeah, that is basically what I am doing with my iPhone app. I already use it a lot anyway when I am practicing so no need to add another tool to the box. I am trying to create a really smooth workflow for when I have ideas and don't want tools to get in the way. I am setting up my Maschine controller with a bank of pads to make it easy to record quickly. Record Repeat is a life savor in this record. One button undos what I just played, goes back, counts in, and starts to record.
