Anyone using Motu Microbook?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've just been checking out the Motu Microbook as a possible audio interface to use with a 2010 13" MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz, 4 GB) running Logic Pro 9. Anyone here using it successfully with Logic Pro 9?

It seems like this might be a good competitor for the Apogee ONE. I have no experience with Motu gear, but they seem to have a good reputation for their drivers.

If anyone could give me any user-experiences with the Motu Microbook (stability of drivers, compatibility with Logic Pro, latency etc) it would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jeremy.

Thanks for the replies.

I haven't been able to find any real-world user experiences with the Microbook yet, might have to just take a punt on it...

Cheers,

Jeremy.

It barely came out to the market so the best is to do a google search with Microbook and review to see if you find any reviews. I would be surprised if MOTU built a lemon but who knows.

Hi guys,

el-bo, I LOVE the ONE but some users (including myself) are experiencing a problem whereby the ONE doesn't communicate properly with it's software functions - meaning that changes made with the encoder knob are not reflected in Maestro or the Logic Control Panel and the ONE pop-up doesn't work.

Apogee at first told me the problem was completely isolated to me, but when I started testing out different peoples gear I always saw the same loss of communication with the ONE, as described above. I have now used 5 different ONE units on 3 computers, and NONE of them worked as they should. When I then took this information back to Apogee they confirmed that the issue is not isolated to me at all, and they are working on a possible fix. Apparently it may involve re-writing the software installers.

I'm not knocking Apogee at all, the ONE would be perfect for me (in terms of it's simplicity) but only if I can get it working properly...

Kent, getting info on the MOTU Microbook is proving difficult because it is quite new, but MOTU just emailed me back to answer some questions I had. Unfortunately in terms of latency, at 64 samples in Logic the round-trip latency is 17ms (compared to 7.2ms with the ONE).

I think I am going to have to wait until Apogee sorts out the ONE issues, or just buy another ONE and 'hope for the best' - obviously although the issues I experienced were not isolated, most users do experience trouble-free operation with the ONE..

Interesting. I've been using ONE as the main input for voice and guitar/bass recordings for over a year with no problems, latencies are super-low and works fine. Maybe it's dependent on a specific hardware batch or something similar? Mine was one of the first, btw.

Yeah, it's hard to know for sure exactly what has caused these issues.

I just hope Apogee is able to sort this out - man it's frustrating hearing someone say they have had trouble-free operation! I had nothing but issues...but I'd definitely go back to the ONE if Apogee can assure me the issues are resolved.
