Adding mod wheel effects after the recording?

Hello everyone

If I record something using keyboard is there a way to add the mod wheel effects in afterwords? without having to re-record it using the modulation wheel?

For example let's say I am using a string ensemble patch and it is set so that when the mod wheel is pushed up it plays staccato. Can I record what I want without touching the wheel, then go into the piano roll or something and add the mod wheel effect (staccato) to specific notes?

Thanks for your time

Yes, you can. Enable hyperdraw (selecting CC#1 or modwheel) in the piano roll's VIEW menu and draw away! You can also enable hyperdraw right in the region display in the arrange area.

You can also simply overdub your modwheel movements on another track! :) Use the function "new track with same instrument/channel". Do that and now you have two tracks, feeding the same instrument. Record your modwheel movement on that track.

You can create as many of these tracks as you want to overdub notes, modwheel, whatever, and they'll all feed the same instrument. And when you're done with all of your various overdubs, edits, etc, you can select all of the separate regions on all of these tracks and merge them (glue them) to form a single track. Or, keep them all separate so it's easy to see what's happening when.

Assuming that the OP wants to switch between staccato and legato, the modwheel value wouldn't be consistent.

If all that was desired was staccato, then it would be best to record (or draw in) a modwheel value of 127 at the start of every phrase to ensure that if the modwheel gets reset vis a vis various Logic preference settings that it's made to pop back up to 127 at the start of each phrase.
