croaky
Hi, I want to be able to record MIDI in a two bar loop similar to the way the MPC machines do it, that is record the two bars then when the loop cycles my new data replaces the old, without creating a new track. All I can seem to do is merge notes or create takes. This is a bit hard to explain if you've never used an MPC, hope I make myself clear. croaky
David Nahmani
Under Settings > Recording, set "Overlapping Recordings" to "Create Take Folders".
croaky
Hi, thanks for your reply, create new takes folder isn't the same as the way the MPC overlaps, I've tried all the overlap features and 'replace' but none of them replicate the way the MPC overlaps. If Logic could do this I would sell my MPC. Regards croaky
David Nahmani
create new takes folder isn't the same as the way the MPC overlaps I had a feeling you were going to say that. Yeah Logic is not an MPC so it doesn't have the same features (and vice versa). I'm curious though, how does the MPC overlap work? Does it replace only what you replay? So you could replace just the hi-hat, or just one of the snares, for example?
nylarch
I believe Ableton does this but Logic does not.
croaky
Thanks for all your replies. When you record for example a two bar loop say straight 16 hi hats, when the loop returns to the start (still in record) you can carry on recording your hi hats and only the last ones recorded are kept with the original (left over) recorded hits. So if say you recorded a pass and one bit was a bit fainter or louder you could overdub whilst still in record mode and not loose the feel of the part you are recording and only end up with only those new beats changed. It's hard to explain in words! The Logic way means you end up with hits on top of each other. This MPC feature makes for a very intuitive way to make realistic drum parts, guess I'll have to keep hold of it for now. As I said earlier I also have a MPD18 (MPC pads controller) and all the drum sounds I'll ever need with EZDrummer and Logic, just that one little sequencing feature stops me from selling the MPC. nylarch
Yeah, just to confirm, Ableton (in quantize record mode) will work this way. Logic not so much.
kowalski
I have a feeling that Logic (or Notator) used to be able to do this.
logicalbeats
Can this be done now in Logic Pro X with the new Midi Scripter? If so I will pay someone for a script that could enable me to record midi this way. This will really streamline my midi programming.
logicalbeats
Anyone? This is a very important feature that I feel has been left out of logic. We should have the option to choose between overlap recording and mpc style recording (live style as well) in the recording settings.
