New Tracks are not in Stereo [SOLVED]

Never had a problem with this before, but recently, I've noticed that my newly created software instrument tracks default to mono, with no option to switch over to stereo. In the logic help menu it explains this is normal and that the track will switch to stereo when i select an instrument. However when doing so, the tracks stay in mono, not giving me the option. I am sure that the instruments im selecting are stereo instruments and the I/O setting in the channel strip is labeled Stereo Out.

Is there a preference I'm missing somewhere? A project setting? How can I create stereo software instrument tracks again?

Software instrument tracks don't have a stereo/mono switch. They come up as stereo or mono depending on the plugin you've chosen. For example, ES1 has the option to select mono or stereo, whereas ESM only offers mono. When you select a plugin, click and HOLD on the name and whatever options are available will appear in a menu.

Another reason that sometimes stereo instruments appear to output in mono... if you selected a mono instrument to begin with (such as ESM) and you then added the Channel EQ, Logic detects that the sound source is mono and the resulting EQ is going to be a mono version of that EQ. If you then change the instrument plugin to be a stereo instrument, the EQ doesn't automatically switch from stereo to mono. And since the instrument's output feeds the first effect plugin in the inserted FX chain (here, a mono EQ), the stereo outputs of the instrument will be summed inside the EQ with the result being a mono output.

Thanks guys, I had a Channel EQ loaded before I chose my instrument. Even after loading the stereo instrument, it still appeared to be in mono. I removed the EQ with the instrument still loaded, and then re-inserted the EQ. This seems to have solved my dilemma. Kinda strange.

Matthew, there's nothing strange about the behavior you describe. Loading an instrument should not change the format of another plug-in on the same channel strip. If you also want to change that format yourself, you have to do it manually.
