cubbychowder
I recorded a small guitar clip and loop it in one of my songs. I tried the fade in feature but now I can't get rid of it. No matter what I do, it keeps fading in even though I dont want it to. How do I undo this? This is in Logic Express btw
David Nahmani
With your fade tool, option-click the fade.

David Nahmani
How do I use the fader tool? Wait - how did you create the fade in the first place? What does it look like on the track?
cubbychowder
i double clicked the recorded section and it popped up in the lower section where you can edit it and stuff. And under the "functions" option you can click "fade in". so I clicked it thinking i could see how it worked and then undo it but now I cant undo it. I even exited without saving to get back to my original and that didnt work either...im confused the clip doesnt look any different, it doesnt show at what rate its fading in, i might just re-record it.... David Nahmani
Ouch - that was a destructive fade you made. You can try to open the sample editor, make sure it has key focus and press undo, but if you say you quit the project without saving, that may not work. cubbychowder
yeah, i think its pretty much a lost cause. It did give me some kinda warning but i just surpassed it. Learn by doing, my mistake. Thanks for the help, i'll have to record it again tomorrow. Luckily its fairly simple.
David Nahmani
As a rule, a warning indicates a destructive edit (you're actually changing the original audio file), whereas edits with no warnings are non-destructive (you're editing regions in the Arrange area without touching the original audio file). More on non-destructive crossfades and fades.

ski
I'm thinking that even a destructive fade should be undo-able (?). I think the default number of undo steps in the sample editor prefs is 5. So... David, can you give us the full skinny on undoing a destructive operation on an audio file? For example, assuming that the sample editor undo steps is not set to zero, does the undo file remain available as long as you're working within the same project that the edit was made? And even after you've closed and then re-opened the project?
David Nahmani
ski, yes, you can save the project, close it, reopen it and still undo your Sample editor actions. The issue here is that the OP closed his project without saving it. But you know what? I just tried and... it does not matter whether the project was saved or not! You should still be able to undo your edits in the sample editor!
