strange modulation / distortion when uploading tracks

I am using waves L1 multimaximizer on my output channel. I am getting the strangest effect when I upload any song to any website, and stream it. The effect doesn't seem to be there in the logic project, or in itunes, at least not to the same degree. I do hear a bit of something I think is coming from the maximizer. It is not limiting heavily, in fact no visible gain reduction. I have the threshold set at-6 or -8, not pumping too hard.

I have tried the following to no avail:

bouncing the song as different file types and sizes.

using different dither settings.

dithering twice.

 

The only thing i have not tried is uploading a version with no maximizer, which now that I think about it, seems obvious.

Bump what ? You said you'd try the obvious, without L1. Did you ? What were the results ?

bump as in a post made only to "bump" my thread back up into the viewable list of posts with recent activity. No i have not tried bouncing without the L1 yet. I'll try it today. My friends that have heard the problem don't seem to hear it like I do, which is good. It's subtle I guess.

Bump, apart from 'Look at me ! I'm still drowning ! HEEEEELP!' also implies that in the meantime you've not been sitting around twiddling thumbs on the subject. Instead, you have tried the obvious / read about the matter / checked on your buddy's rig / read the manuals / whatever.

 

In your case you even suggested the next step. We're all ears about what happened.
