Logic Pro & Fantom G

abstracto

Recommended Posts

I am using Logic Pro with a Fantom G connected through a DIGI 002. I have MIDI Out of the Fantom going into the MIDI in of the DIGI 002/MIDI Out of DIGI 002 into MIDI In of the Fantom G. I am running the Fantom G in studio mode in an intent at using it as a multi-timbral sound module. I am able to record notes from the Fantom although I get nothing in playback even-though I can see MIDI Notes in the external tracks. In Logic I have a Multi-Instrument set up in the Environment and in the Audio/MIDI App. there is a Roland Fantom instrument setup.

What I want to do is setup up so I can use the Fantom as a controller and Sound Module while having Logic as the Sequencer. Fatnom (MIDI)-> Logic <- Fantom (Audio)....

Roland said I had to consult with Apple on how to setup Logic on how to make it return MIDI signal back out to the Fantom as they instructed me how to transmit data to logic.

This may or may not help you but I'm gonna throw it out there. I've always found when using a multi-timbral keyboard or module, it's easier to configure through the instrument itself rather than try to configure it through an external sequencer. In other words, do everything in your keyboard other than the sequencing. I have an old fantom and it may be different than yours, but it's probably just a matter of going into multitimbre mode, setting up a user patch and then configuring whatever sounds you want in it. If you have a set group of sounds you usually use, save that user patch as a template within your keyboard and start there. In Logic, set up your tracks up with the corresponding midi channel to your sounds in the user patch, and record away. If you want to use your fantom as a controller, make sure you have your local switch turned to off. You'll probably have to have the specific logic track record enabled to play it's sound. Sorry, I haven't done this for awhile, but I think that's right. This all should be explained in your fantom manual as well. Your only limitation is how many parts your user patch will let you have. If you can live with that limitation, I promise you it's a LOT easier than trying to configure all your fantom info through the external sequencer.
