slow on macbook pro fast on G5 - but why?

I am trying to utilize 2 work stations with logic 8, home and office.

 

The first is a G5 with dual 1.8 ghz processor/ 1 gig SDRAM

the other

Macbook Pro with 2.5 ghz intel core/ 4 gig 667 mhz DDR2 SDRAM

 

I anticipated the Mac book Pro running more smoothly because I thought it

had more processing power but it stalls. I transferred the files from the G5 to an external HD and then

imported the into the Macbook Pro to continue working on the project in other locations. as soon as i tried

to play a new midi instrument i got the "rainbow ball of death" and error messages that it is too slow.

 

 

Advice?
