Axiom Pro 49 with Logic Hyper Control

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any experience with a Axiom Pro and the Hyper Control?

When I first got this midi controller and installed the Hyper Control, I set it up with Logic and it was working great.

Now, for no reason I can pin point, the Hyper Control isn't working.

The piano keys and drum pads still respond, but the faders, knobs, all they Hyper Control stuff are just bonkers.

I've tried going under Preferences and Resetting midi drivers, but it doesn't seem to help the issue.

I wish I had more info, but I honestly don't know what to say.

One day it was working fine and the next day it's complete bonkers. The LCD screen just shows 8 "blank knobs" and none of the F buttons, number buttons seem to respond or do anything.

I'd appreciate any help, feed back or pointing in the right direction.

Thanks :)

Well...I think I've got something for you:

I've had the same problem & spent a loooooot of time trying to understand why sometimes when I open or create a project, HyperControl is acting weird.

Sometimes it worked like supposed, & sometimes, the LCD display & button lights were not displaying what they should.

So I re-installed everything, searched for hours, & found nothing until....I tried to check if the problem is "template-related"...& yes (!!!!!) for me it was that. When I load a template, HyperControl wont work properly, & when i DON'T, hypercontrol works!!!!! Tell me if that solves the problem for you too.

:D

is that a template as in a Logic Project Template or an Axiom Pro HyperControl template (or whatever M-Audio calls it)?

I'm guessing you're referring to a Logic Project Template.. and if that's the case then I'm wondering if it's as simple as creating your own Logic templates with HyperControl incorporated into them so you can call them up when needed and HyperControl will be a built in part of it from the get go.. for me if you cannot use HyperControl within the context of a Logic template then that's too bad.

I don't understand what you mean by "building HyperControl into a template"? HyperControl should just work all the time, on all projects, so I'm not sure what you mean by that. :?

since I don't have the Axiom Pro I'm just guessing about the specifics of what @alexalex said..

M-Audio states you have to have the Axiom Pro control surface setup in your Logic Pro Preferences so forth and so on.. to my understanding these type of parameters should NOT be a template specific setting.. but maybe I'm wrong.. hopefully @alexalex can shed some more light on his discovery.

Hey there. Sorry I came late to this party. I'm hooking up the new Hypercontrol right now to see if it behaves.

I have an older MCU as well, so I'm very curious to see if they've really fixed this. I've been sitting on a tutorial until they had the 64bit thing worked out.

BRB~!

Well, I've rebooted, installed and uninstalled and installed again..

It doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm going to install HyperControl on my laptop as well to see if it works there. In that case, it may be that I misplaced a folder when I was uninstalling it months ago.

I'll notify you if I get it working.

I'm sure you're totally not just lucky. :-)

I'm fairly certain I must have moved an important install location in haste to get my Logic control working properly. After the 9.1.2 update, my control surfaces started acting normal again...

I'm hoping it will work on the laptop, I'll find the install location, and make sure that that location is available on my tower.

That's what I get for hastily digging through my OS.

Well, looks like permissions issues!

For those who need to know, the profile is in Library->Application support-> MIDI Device Plug-ins

For some reason, that folder was locked to me...

I've upgraded so many times that I think when I transferred my mac brain to the octacore - some permissions got funky

I assure you this was my fault.

Carry on!

Ok! I'm testing AxiomPro61 with Logic HyperControl personality version 1.0.2-2, Logic 9.1.3 (64bits), os 10.6.5.

for now :

faders ok

fader buttons ok

flib button ok

encoders knobs ok

transport ok

first bug : when I select ins (inserts) from soft key, I dont get the slot number at the bottom left, even if I turn E1 (the knob to select the slot). So I don't know on witch slot I will load (with the load soft key) the plugin I'm selecting with the E3 encoder. That used to work 100% with Logic HyperControl personality version 1_0-4 (the one before this one) & Logic at 32 bits.

second bug : sometimes, on "big sessions", when I'm at the "home page", I play with the sliders to control some track volumes or/and I play with the knob encoders to play with the tracks pan. Normally, after 3 seconds, the LCD screen is supposed to return to that default home page (with the list of 8 tracks). Well sometimes it doesn't. I't stays on the page where all 8 encoders are graphically displayed (if i just played with a pan) or I't stays on the page where all the faders are graphically displayed (if i just played with them). Now, this bug doesn't occur with small sessions (i've tested with a new 19 (random number) mono track only). But with bigger sessions, using 3rd party plugins like 3-4 Altiverb, 2 Trilian ,10-15 waves, etc. (around 1Go of RAM used by Logic according to Activity Monitor), I get this bug.

third bug : sometimes (i don't know why sometime it does & sometimes it doesn't), when i'm in the ins (insert) page & I try loading a plugin or I try selecting a plugin using E1 and E3, the display switches on the page with the 9 sliders. I don't understand why this page is displayed...The previous version ( Logic HyperControl personality version 1_0-4) didn't do that.

fourth bug : SOMETIMES (meaning not always), when I create a new track with no plugin (I tested with a new mono audio track), I go to the ins (inserts) page with my softkey#2. I'm now on the INSERT page. I Choose a plugin to load with my E3 knob. I then press the LOAD softkey#3 to load it, but it doesn's load & I get a weird graphical bug on my display, like a superposition of the Insert page & the page on wich I see all 9 sliders.

That's it for now...

It seems that the "insert" part of this new 64-bits personality for Logic 9 has a couple of problems. Do you guys have any of these problems?

btw sorry for my poor english, it's not my first language (I'm from Montreal)

to all you Axiom Pro users.. here's a very new "HyperControl Logic Personality" software update that may help:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers&f=1131

hope that helps for some of the problems.

I can't believe this lol. It says the release date for this "personality driver" was January 7, 2011.

I just went to install it but a warning popped up telling me that I couldn't install it because a newer version was already installed on my computer.

WTF?

Yeah, same thing happened to me. Does anyone magically know if this update is just to support 64 bit (which I'm not using) or does it improve other things as well?

you can use it in 32bits. But it has the same bugs (that I described). If you want to use hypercontrol in 32 bits I suggest the personality just before that one.

I never had that pop-up & I've intalled & uninstalled version 1.0.2-2 at least 10 times.

weird...

I'm brand new to the Axiom Pro -- just hooking it up today. Came across this thread and thought I'd share what's working for me. I'm on a Mac, running Logic in 32 bit mode (can't remember why).

Problem 1 -- No Axiom Pro control-surface choice in Logic's Preferences menu

Solution for me -- I changed the permissions on the folder where the Axiom HyperControl files had been installed. For some reason the installer left that folder locked to the world. So I gave myself access (using Get Info on the folder, clicking the little unlock button at the lower right of the window, giving read and write permissions to myself/administrators, and applying those permissions to the contents of the folder). Note -- when I reinstalled the software, I had to repeat this step because the installer overwrote the folder. So if the folder's locked, unlock it.

The files are located in /Library/Application Support/MIDI Device Plugins/Axiom Pro bundle

That got me to the point where I could see an Axiom Pro listed in the Logic preferences window and could select it. But that still left me with a pretty-much horked up Axiom. So here's...

Problem Number 2 -- The Axiom only vaguely communicated with Logic and the behavior in no way resembled the way it was supposed to work, especially the HyperControl stuff.

Solution for me -- I used Audio Midi setup to configure the Axiom. Up until then the computer was just treating it like a generic class-device and missing out on all the good HyperControl stuff. Here's the mapping I used (from the Quick Start Guide):

Note: make sure the Axiom is connected/turned-on so the computer can see it. Doesn't matter whether Logic is running or not.

Input ports (little upward-pointing arrows on the Axiom)

Axiom port 1 -- Axiom Pro USB A In

Axiom port 2 -- Axiom Pro HyperControl In

Axiom port 3 -- Axiom Pro MIDI In

Axiom port 4 -- Axiom Pro USB B In

Output ports (little downward-pointing arrows -- there are only two of these)

Axiom port 1 -- Axiom Pro MIDI Out

Axiom port 2 -- Axiom Pro HyperControl Out

Steps -- click "add device" 6 times so you've got six new boxes, name those six new boxes using the names on the right side of my list (eg. "Axiom Pro USB A In"), drag lines between the arrows to connect the inputs to inputs and the outputs to outputs.

Works fine now -- sliders, rotors, all that stuff. I haven't tested all the features yet 'cause it's lunch time and us geezers need our little lunch. But I think I've got it licked.
