RootyUK
I am looking to getting a setup which is sufficient enough for my needs which are basically recording foley sounds for amateur films. I also do a bit of home recording but nothing extensive. My mac I will use is running 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4GB DDR3 RAM. The setup I have been looking at is: TASCAM 1614 http://www.amazon.co.uk/TASCAM-US-1641-US-1641/dp/B000WHMGL2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292507739&sr=8-1 LIQUID POWER 480W PA DJ AMPLIFIER http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LIQUID-POWER-480W-PA-DJ-AMPLIFIER-NEW-PARTY-MOSFET-AMP-/350423313048?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Amplifiers_RL&hash=item5196db6a98#ht_4868wt_1141 KRK RP5 Rokit 5 G2 Active Studio Monitor Speakers http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pair-KRK-RP5-Rokit-5-G2-Active-Studio-Monitor-Speakers-/260708962348?pt=UK_ConElec_SpeakersPASystems_RL&hash=item3cb377102c#ht_1952wt_1141 My budget doesnt stretch much more than this so if anyone has any suggestions to items similaly price that would be great. Thanks in advance Matt
nmaison
LIQUID POWER 480W PA DJ AMPLIFIER http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LIQUID-POWER-480W-PA-DJ-AMPLIFIER-NEW-PARTY-MOSFET-AMP-/350423313048?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Amplifiers_RL&hash=item5196db6a98#ht_4868wt_1141 Matt whats the reason for the power amp? your monitors are already powered.. anyway i do some folly work also, logic samples help out a lot, i would get a dbx compressor and a 57 that should help you get started(the 57 is amazingly clear with the right amount of compression dialog/sounds work perfectly)
RootyUK
Thanks for pointing that out about the power amp, I didnt realise the monitors were powered. I usually find the 57 great, but recently I have been using a couple of AKG C1000S, they are great for the majority of what I do. nmaison
right o, yeah i would still definitly use a hardware compressor, ive had great experiences with my dbx 166xl also if doing folly check out native instruments sound librarys, i just got into using them for transitions/backround effects for ambience
