Splanky222
HEy guys, I am working on a project in Logic 8 (got the non upgradeable student version just outisde the free upgrade time range before 9 came out) and I am having this weird issue with the metronome. I am trying to sync it to the tempo of the song, as per usual (it was recorded at my school in PT and I bounced all the tracks in place to mix on my laptop in logic), but whenever I change the tempo of the metronome, the tracks get all out of sync, but as soon as I switch back to 120 BPM, everything locks again... I've never seen anything like this!
elik
Welcome to the world of digital audio. Unlike MIDI, it does not follow tempo changes. At least not in it's default state. You could use Flex to have it follow tempo if you really want to. But by default, audio plays back at the tempo it was recorded at and changing the tempo in your DAW just changes the grid in the background, and how the audio file sits on the grid. But by default it doesn't actually change the speed of the audio. Using the metronome does follow the grid in the bar ruler and the tempo changes. So, by changing the tempo, the metronome is playing bak at the new tempo while the audio is playing back unchanged. What exactly is it you are trying to do anyway? If you want the metronome to follow the music, just leave it at 120 - which is obviously the tempo the audio must have originally been recorded at. There are ways of exporting tempo information to audio files in Logic and then having them follow project tempo. But it makes sense that files exported from Pro Tools would not do this by default. Tell us what you are trying to do specifically, and maybe we can suggest ways to do it. Eli Krantzberg
Splanky222
There's no MIDI in this project. What happenned was I recorded all of the tracks and edited at school in PT, but I had to come home for break and I run Logic on my computer at home so I bounced all the tracks in place and brought them into Logic. I am just trying to get the metronome to sync to the track for tempo synce'd delays, ease of mixing / additional editing, etc. When I change the tempo, the drums get all out of time, it's weird. I can post some audio to explain, its probably the best way to go about it
elik
If it syncs up at 120 bpm, why can't you just leave it like that? What's the problem? If there are tempo changes within the music and you want to create a tempo map in Logic to be able to follow it, then that's a different story. You can use beat mapping for that. It's a bit complicated to explain in an email like this, especially if you are new to Logic. But check it out in the manual or do a search on the forum here, it's been covered many times. It basically involves the file being analyzed for transients, and then manually lining up the down beats within the beat mapping ruler.
