Recover Deleted Files

Recommended Posts

Accidentally deleted an entire folder containing project files and audio files. I am using a data recovery program. My problem is, how do I identify the project files and audio files, and get them back where they belong? I think they will all have generic names, so I cannot identify what is what. There will be so many different backup versions of the project files, I need to just identify the latest one for each song. Perhaps if I can do that, it will be easier to find the audio files that belong in each project shell.

I'm not sure, what is date data? I recovered tons of aiff audio files, many of which i deleted on purpose. some of them are files i didnt want to lose, but i dont know if i can get them back into place on the time axis of the song without the project file. i recovered display state files, which i thought where part of the project, but are only text in their recovered form. I only recovered the files that i recognized as having to do with logic, there may be more that i didnt recognize as being related. i can always run the deleted file scan again.

This happened because in the process of backing up files, i had created a duplicate logic folder of everything. i deleted it to free up space. apparently logic had begun recording to the duplicate folder instead of the original, so i lost about a months worth of recording and mixing. i am left with the projects as they where a month ago. except for one project, strangely. it seems untouched.

You're right Christian. That would make everything so much easier. Unfortunately there is not any date data recovered. All generic file names. I can find the audio files I have lost, but I don't imagine I can get them back to their proper place on the time axis. I am beginning to accept that I cannot restore the project file. I have found nothing in my searches about it. At least I only lost a months worth of mixing and recording, and not the entire song. It does feel devastating though. What I can't understand is why did some songs record into the duplicate folder and not others? Why did anything begin recording into the duplicate folder in the first place?

Try Kernel for FAT and NTFS i have personally used this software , You can preview the files before recovering it, so you can check the preview to decide whether to recover that file or not and also it includes the creation date and modification date of the file making it much easier to recognize the file

It's named Kernel ? Seriously ? How would you google that product ?

Christian

enter "kernel for fat" and voila. Top hit.

But I understand your scepsis. Kernel to me means the core of an operating system. It can panic. Googling just "Kernel" would not be very practical... 8)

but annieway, it is for FAT and NTFS - how would that work on a Mac? Answer: not, unless you boot in Widows - and even then it could only find files on the widows partition.

Makebelieve, What program(s) did you use to retrieve the data? Sounds like DATA Rescue (II). Helped me retrieve 7 GB of photos once. But with generic filenames...

There are some other programs you could try...
