Eriksimon
A seasonal thread that could go anywhere. But my question is: what is your favorite Christmas (pop)song? Here's mine, a gem from the Netherlands, eighties. Fay Lovski - Christmas was a friend of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzgXzhOXO2I&feature=related
mmooney92
Trans-Siberian Orchestra do a lovely cover of Pachelbel's Canon, with original lyrics in a christmas spin! Failing that, there's always Fairytale Of New York, but I'm not sure how well-known that song is worldwide...

Andyreww
Favorite Carol (The not so accurate version): We three kings, of Orient are, One in a bus, one in a car, One on a scooter, blowing his hooter, Smoking a fat cigar. CHORUS: Oh, star of wonder Star of might Fill your pants with dynamite Light the fuse and off we go ... Around the world to Mexico. We three kings of Orient are Tried to smoke a rubber cigar It was loaded, and exploded Now we're on yonder star. CHORUS
Thetaobera
Thank you Andrew, I've been torturing everyone at the Holidays by singing only the second verse for 20 years, now I can add the rest. My friends and family will be pleased.

My friends and family will be pleased. Funnily enough, I've been dong the same with the first verse for years - I only found the chorus/second verse a few days ago - torture now goes to the next level..... Eriksimon
I suddenly wondered: what about southern hemisphere Christmas songs? Do Australians and New Zealanders also listen to songs about snow and sleighbells etc?

lookatthisguy
My favorite tunes lately come from the Colbert Christmas Special from a year or two ago. Unfortunately, I haven't mastered the embedding on forums yet (or maybe Safari just isn't previewing correctly, so I'm fooled?). "Another Christmas Song" "Nutmeg" But then, surprisingly serious tunes that are good as well: "There Are Much Worse Things to Believe In" "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding?" Barrsian
Dead Christmas by Monster Magnet "I said f**k you on christmas, and then they put me to bed And I'm never gonna tell you why" Always found that refrain funny
Orsanct
An oft-forgotten choral work by Arnold Schoenberg titled, "Peace on Earth." This sometimes surprises folks who only know of the atonal/12-tone works by Schoenberg.

Scott Jackson
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_thyself And you still have not enlightened me as to what your post means. Eriksimon
Nosce te ipsum My meaning was to be lighthearted. And the Snobbish was selfsarcasm, as the whole greek thing I pasted in there does look pretty snobbish on my part (the "I know better than you about Thales because I studied Greek Philosophers" sort of snobbery) so... It is the sort of "joke" any comedian would scrap from his routine - because it (obviously) didn't work... sorry if I confused you over nothing. Mea Culpa, omnia Vanitas.
